With its groovy flowered wallpaper, white lacquered shelves and stock of bright bags, the new Kate Spade boutique at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City (1100 S. Hayes St., Arlington; 703-415-3025) looks like a preppy priestess’ chic apartment. Among fall finds: the Suzette coat (shown, $698), polka-dotted ballet flats ($228) and printed iPhone covers.
Every bow tie in Accoutre’s new fall-apropos collection is designed by the dapper (and D.C.-based) neckwear knight Eliot Payne (Accoutre.me). Favorites include a black-and-white houndstooth one and a number in magenta corduroy. More of a dandy with an edge? The seafoam knotter with hard-core metal studs may suit you (shown, $60).
A Dental Plan
We fess up to these tooth transgressions on the road: Cleaning our not-so-pearly whites with a glob of Crest and a finger. “Borrowing” our significant other’s Oral-B. We may reform with the Slim Sonic ($15, Home Rule, 1807 14th St. NW; 202-797-5544), battery-run models with caps to keep germs at bay and cool printed exteriors (snake, zebra).
Summertime In a Bottle
Berries have been MIA at farmers markets for weeks. So unless you think a kale sundae or brussels sprout pie sounds yummy, you’ll have to, er, fall back on Sarabeth’s Kitchen’s new Strawberry Syrup ($12, Sarabeth.com). Like a sort of pourable jam, the middle-of-July fresh-tasting liquid brings a fruity twist to ice cream and jazzes up pancakes or waffles. It’s particularly good pals with anything chocolate.
Semi Cheap Seats
Restoration Hardware spawns oversized catalogs (fall’s weighs in at more then 3 pounds) and even more oversized furniture. Still, the industrial-mad retailer went small-ish in price and large on style with its new bent-plywood chairs (shown, $69-$79, Restorationhardware.com). They’re sold in multiple finishes, including green.
