Drowning in News in the 4 O'clock Hour
THERE ARE TWO BIG STORIES coming up in the next hour. First, live from the federal court house in Alexandria, will be the jury's verdict on whether convicted terrorist Zacaraias Moussaoui will face the death penalty. Then for reporters and media types, there's a conference call with Bud Selig to discuss something about the Washington Nationals. Hmmm. Wonder what that could be? What's next, a flood or earthquake or something? We feel like we're trapped in the Situation Room and Wolf Blizter is nowhere to be found. [Follow these breaking stories at washingtonpost.com.]

» CANCELLED: So ABC decided to cancel its show "Commander in Chief." What will Geena Davis do now? And how are Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential prospects affected by ABC's decision? There must be some happy people in Prince George's County right now. [WaPo]
» SOMEHOW ENCHANTED: This is trouble. The University of Southern California' s star quarterback, Matt Leinert, (just drafted by the Arizona Cardinals) is now getting social with that tempest in a teapot, Paris Hilton. We hope it's not Paris' acting or conversation skills that lured Leinert in. Hilton is apparently wearing a brown wig to remain on the downlow, but when you're walking around with Matt Leinert at the mall, you can't hide. That'd be like Ann Coulter wearing a red wig while escorting Antonin Scalia around Signatures, if it were still open. [TMZ]
» ATTENTION, VERIZON: Remember when Verizon started spray painting District streets in a guerilla marketing campaign? Yeah, that didn't go over so well. Well maybe they can start using this tactic, involving edible graffiti. Does cookie debris still count as litter? [BoingBoing, DCist]

OK, so Verizon got fined, but it's still probably a bargain compared to conventional outdoor advertising. What bugs me is that Verizon already has such a death-grip on this city that they hardly need to advertise to their captive audience. Tsk!
By the way, I'm really enjoying the blog, Mike. Keep up the good work!
