Bag This Idea

Dimebag would never allow himself to be on E! in any context.AS THE BIRTHDAY of murdered ex-Pantera rocker Dimebag Darrell last month approached, E! had a great idea: Let's remember him by re-enacting his being gunned down by a crazy fan as a part of a "Most Chilling Hollywood Murders" special! Hmm, but to do that, they'd have to get licensing for the footage of the murder, which was caught by a stationary stage camera. "Hey, no problem!" they say. "We'll just ask his old PR rep if she minds a gory re-visitation of the slaying. We're sure his family and friends won't mind. After all, who would turn down E!, right?" [KNAC-FM]

STINGRAYS — THEY'RE THE NEW SHARKS: You knew it was going to happen: After the death of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, a stingray backlash has rocked Australia. While we here in the United States have to be creative to come up with ways to join in the worldwide rage against uncomprehending sea animals — Express, for one, refuses to watch any televised games of Tampa Bay's major-league baseball team — thanks to the Internet, anyone, anywhere, can lash out at the vicious beasts of the sea alongside a vengeful Terri Irwin. WHAT'S THAT YOU WERE SAYING ABOUT STREET VIOLENCE? We're catching a whiff of staged-humor from this clip. If legit, however, it may explain why all those people in the background of TV news clips shuffle on by, obediently ignoring the camera: Fear of choking on a foam microphone cover crammed down your throat. ATTENTION, BIKE OWNERS: Further research has confirmed earlier studies concluding that, yes, anyone can still steal your bike anytime in any way they want to. [YouTube]

  • "We do not know if these incidents are motivated by Steve Irwin's death. At the moment, that is just speculation."

SO, uh, why does every news story about this keep linking the two, even though there's no evidence of a connection? Don't they mention that in Journalism 101 anymore?
