Beltway/I-270 Is Nation's 7th Worst Bottleneck

Photo by Frank Johnston/The Washington PostTHINK THE TRAFFIC at the I-495/I-270 interchange is bad? So do the people at Forbes Magazine. They've ranked it as the nation's 7th worst bottleneck, accounting for 19 million hours of delays per year, WTOP reports.

The Beltway/I-270 interchange comes in behind intersections in Houston, Chicago, Phoenix, Atlanta and two interchanges in Los Angeles. In fact, L.A. has four of the top 12 worst bottlenecks in the country, according to Forbes. Which should make D.C. commuters feel better, but probably doesn't.

  • This should scream loudly to us that it is time to greatly expand our public transportation infrastructure. And, I'm not talking about buses. Metro should be running straight down I-270 from it's beginning in Frederick all the way to the Beltway.
