D.C. Area to Stew in Code Orange Conditions

TODAY, hot, humid and hazy conditions are entrenched regionally, creating Code Orange air quality conditions — a particular hazard for those with breathing sensitivities.

Expect temperatures to rise into the mid-90s with heat indicies around 100. It'll be pretty nasty.

Because of the Code Orange declaration, buses in Northern Virginia are offering free rides. Currently, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is forecasting Code Orange conditions to continue tomorrow. Friday, however, conditions should be better as a cold front pushes through.

  • It's just nasty outside today. The mornding drive, walk, metro in was terrible. Thank goodness for those frigid "newer" trains on the Orange line. They chill the pools of sweat on my bacy with great efficiency. I don't go outside at all when it gets above 90. Do you think I even want to be here now?
