Temps to Soar Above, Below Ground on Friday
THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURES so far this year (and it's not officially summer yet) are set to move into the region on Friday, sending temperatures into the upper 90s and heat indices above 100 degrees, conditions that can test the nerves of even the most hardened commuter.
So fate has added insult to injury. The cooling systems at Farragut North and Dupont Circle — nobody uses those stations, right? — are out of service because of a broken pipe under Connecticut Avenue that's expected to take a while to repair.
Metro reports that it doesn't know when the situation will be resolved, so expect commuters heading to and from the Golden Triangle area to be extra irritable.
At least for those using the Dupont station's Q Street NW, there's some uplifting (get it?) poetry from Walt Whitman being etched into the wall that will ease the pain of going in and out of the inferno-like conditions below ground.
