No Fare Hike in Metro's 2008 Budget

COMMUTERS' WALLETS will breathe a sigh of relief at this news: Metro's new $1.9 billion budget was approved today, and it doesn't include a fare increase.

But riders aren't out of the woods yet, The Post's Eric M. Weiss reports. An increase was staved off because the transit agency received $41 million from a lawsuit settlement — and Metro General Manager John Catoe said a fare hike could be likely for 2009.
