Metrobus Collides With D.C. Police Cruiser in SE
DETAILS ARE MINIMAL right now, but a Metrobus hit a police cruiser early this morning near Wheeler Road and Mississippi Avenue near Congress Heights, sending seven people to the hospital. The police cruiser was hit after it attempted to make a sudden right turn in front of the bus, according to WTOP. This might serve as a good reminder that late last year, the D.C. Council approved a measure making right turns in front of buses illegal ....

This doesn't surprise me at all -- police cruisers and metrobuses account for nearly 2/3rds of the egregious traffic violations I see when I'm walking about town. Illegal left turns (or right turns, in this case), running red lights, overly-aggressive lane weaving... Last week at Dupont Circle, I was almost flattened by a police cruiser that ran a red light while making an illegal left turn.
Somebody needs to tell these folks that just because they have a set of lights on top of their car/bus doesn't give them the prerogative to do whatever the heck they want. On the contrary, they need to be setting an example for the rest of the impatient, incompetent maniacs on the streets.
