Poll Center: Strip Clubs in Your Neighborhood?
TECHNICALLY, proposed legislation that would allow a number of adult entertainment venues dislodged by the construction of the Washington Nationals' South Capitol Street ballpark to relocate stipulates that they could only move to a spot in the District with zoning regulations similar to the neighborhood they left. And the area of the city that has the most comparable warehouse and light industrial landscape is the New York Avenue corridor in Ward 5.
So, nearby residents feel that D.C. Council member Jim Graham's relocation bill, which is set to come before the full council today, is targeting their neighborhood specifically. Community furor has been building, and some clubs are making preliminary moves to reopen in places like Ivy City, as The Post's Yolanda Woodlee reports. So today's council hearing should be quite interesting to watch.
Of course, some strip clubs co-exist fairly peacefully with D.C. neighborhoods. For instance, in Glover Park in Ward 3, two such establishments sit amid a bustling commercial strip, one next to one of the city's best sushi restaurants, Sushi Ko.
So what do you think? For today's Poll Center question, we ask: Would you object to an adult club in your neighborhood? Go vote (and comment) here and see how your fellow commuters weighed in, station by station, line by line.
