Action on D.C. Voting Rights Bill Expected Soon

Photo by Michael Grass/ExpressIN THE U.S. SENATE, the office of Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, has indicated that legislation that would give the District a full and equal vote in the House would make it to a vote on the floor the week of Sept. 17. The bill passed the House this spring and later cleared two Senate committees. And, reports The Post's Mary Beth Sheridan, the bill may have enough support to avoid a dreaded filibuster, something that wasn't the case before the August recess:

Supporters celebrated the announcement, saying they think the measure, which would give the District a full seat in the U.S. House, has enough backing to pass. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.), a co-sponsor of the bill, indicated that he thought it could survive a filibuster attempt.
The White House has stated its opposition to the legislation, saying that the District is not a state.
