Verizon Center's New Scoreboard in Place
ALTHOUGH THE VERIZON CENTER won't officially turn 10 years old until December, its big birthday gift has arrived.
The downtown arena, originally known as the MCI Center, now has its new state-of-the-art scoreboard, part of a $50 million improvement package. And as you can see here, it's crisp, shiny and ready to get stared at by thousands of eyes in the stands.
It's pretty fancy. According to an earlier announcement:
Over 1,000 feet of linear [light-emitting diode] fascia will bring to life the entire upper level of the arena bowl, while 400 feet of full motion signage will continue to animate the lower level of the arena bowl. Four additional LED displays will also light the top corners of the arena bowl with statistics, 3D graphics and advertisements, thus completing the entire digital display system.Want more stats? Check these out:
» Height: 14 feet, 5 inches
» Width: 25 feet, 2 inches
» Pixel-Pitch: 6 mm
» Screen Area: 365 square feet
» Resolution: 736 x 1280 dot resolution
» Possible Colors: 68.7 billion
It's pretty safe to assume that no 10-year-old kid is ever getting a birthday gift like that.
