Styles: Lightweight Lifting

Courtesy CliniqueWE ONCE READ A BOOK about zero gravity. ("The Hunt for Zero Point," which we highly recommend.) It involved hairy men toiling in basement labs, secret government projects and Nazis. Though Clinique was not found in the index, Zero Gravity Repairwear Lift (for three skin types, $52.50, Clinique.com) shares its namesake's elusive nature. The goop has the strange property of lifting skin without any visible means; it felt as if our face was being stretched back by tape at the hairline (a hoary old runway trick, for those who don't know). We looked fresher and more awake, though we think we're being followed.

» REFLECTIONS ON LIPS: L'Oreal's Infallible Never Fail LipColour ($12, drugstores, and, by the way, the Pope called — he wants his adjective back) attempts to set its long-wearing lipstick apart by encasing both bits — the color and the clear sealer — in a mirrored case. This is very clever, except for one inescapable flaw: It instantly becomes covered in fingerprints. If your lipstick is stolen and then recovered, you're in great shape for fingering the thief. But if you want to actually use the mirror, break out the Windex. Once on our lips, the stuff survived for about three hours, though the glossy top layer rubbed off a little on cans and mugs.
