Alberto's Pizza Reopens After August Fire
ATTENTION, PIZZA LOVERS in Dupont Circle: Less than five months after a fire damaged its P Street NW building, Alberto's is back in business.
On Saturday, a friend and Alberto's fan who lives around the corner from the take-out pizza joint was dismayed to learn that it had quietly reopened the night before. He was filled with regret; if he'd have known, he wouldn't have gone next door to Goodies for his Friday night snack attack.
During Alberto's absence, Goodies filled the pizza gap by offering slices, albeit doughy ones. Down the block, at P and 21st streets NW, D.C. Cafe found some new fans in search of late-night eats, although making a great gyro can take more time than serving up a slice.
We took a swing down the street on Saturday evening, and we can confirm that Alberto's is definitely back. The basement space is slightly more roomy. At the moment, it's also missing the tiles on its floor.
And a reminder: Alberto's serves up jumbo slices, so ordering two at a time — a common rookie mistake — is not advised. Also, to make digestion easier, take a napkin to soak up some of the grease in advance. The same rules apply for Alberto's other location on Adams Morgan's 18th Street NW strip.
