Lust and Germans: 'Summer in Berlin'
THOSE NAUGHTY GERMANS down at the Goethe-Institut are holding a series called "Best in Film: Summer Sizzlers." Sounds steamy, as does Monday night's selection. "Summer in Berlin" is a a renowned film from renowned director Andreas Dresen about, love (lust?) and stuff.
There's a single mother and a trucker and another woman who is close friends with said single mother. And it all takes place in the summer, upping the ante for flaring tempers and sweating. If that's not encouraging enough, Andrew Sarris of the New York Observer said "You won't encounter many movies nearly as good from anywhere this year." Done!
