A Giant Disappointment: Redskins Falter Out of the Gate

Photo by Al Bello/Getty ImagesMAYBE 6-10 WAS a bit too optimistic.

In the aftermath of Thursday night's 16-7 loss to the New York Giants, the Redskins barely resembled an NFL team, let alone one that will compete for the playoffs.

Among the problems:

» Jason Campbell looked wholly uncomfortable in new coach Jim Zorn's West Coast offense.

» The entire team looked ill-prepared during the opening quarter, in which Washington was lucky to only be down 10-0 after 15 minutes.

» Zorn's time management was worse than Joe Gibbs 2.0, which is saying something. There was no sense of urgency in the final drive when the team was only losing by 9.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, remember that there have been plenty of teams that have stunk up the joint in the first week only to surge to strong seasons.

This same franchise started 0-5 under Marty Schottenheimer before turning fortunes around to finish 8-8. Of course, Dan Snyder fired Marty after that and set the Redskins back years in the process.

Will Zorn face the same fate? That's the question we'll be pondering all season.

Next up, the 'Skins take on the Saints. At least one dynamic offense will be on display at FedEx Field then.
