SOUND BETS

Reggae Summerfest Spotlight: I-Wayne

I LIKE I-WAYNE not just because he croons in a thin tenor that recalls El DeBarge's, but also because he's a dedicated Rasta who sings incredibly catchy songs, a few of which sound like Old Testament admonitions that would be called "religious right propaganda" were he running for office. Ah, context.

In fact, if the Republican Party wanted to have a hip convention, they should have hired the really hardcore dreads, such as Capleton and Sizzla, and let them sing all their songs whose words align with America's conservative movement. Of course, all the uptight suits would have to deal with a forest fire of weed smoke on the convention floor, but they could just chalk it up to "dry ice."

I-Wayne appears Sun. Sept. 7 at Reggae Summerfest at RFK Stadium.
