Terps Primed for a BCS Push
LESS THAN A month ago, the sponsors of D.C.'s new EagleBank Bowl probably were dreaming of a Maryland-Navy matchup in December.
The Terrapins aren't cooperating. And head coach Ralph Friedgen couldn't be happier.
With early season games against California and Clemson, a typical Maryland team would be clawing to stay in the bowl picture, let alone fighting for the ACC title.
These Terps seem to be hardly ordinary. Following a stunning loss to Middle Tennessee, quarterback Chris Turner has led Maryland to wins over two top-25 teams.
Staring at a 5-1 record if they easily dispose of the terrible Virginia Cavaliers Saturday — as they should — the Terps will not only be in great shape for a bowl game, but perhaps even in the BCS.
I';m not just being a homer saying that. The schedule couldn't be any better for Maryland.
With the ACC sinking to new depths, every league game is winnable. The toughest contest will be at Blacksburg against Virginia Tech on Nov. 6. The league's only other ranked team, Wake Forest, comes to College Park on Oct. 18.
North Carolina and Florida State could be challenging, but both games are at home. And if the Atlantic Division crown comes down to the final weekend, Maryland is in great shape with a road game against way-down Boston College.
These aren't typical times for Maryland, which underscores the importance of taking advantage of this situation.
The Terps are too good for a start-up bowl in D.C. The Orange Bowl looks more fitting for Friedgen's crew.

Dude, how stupid do you feel? 'Cause you couldn't have been more wrong. The Twerps run the table? They gotta show up to the game first. Orange Bowl? BCS bowls are for men, not bums. Reality bites, but I'd say Md is going to be lucky to go .500 the rest of the way home. You went so far out on a limb you didn't realize there was no tree to begin with.
