Cyclist Heaven: CycleLife USA

OPEN THE DOOR at 3255 K St. NW and the scene is just what you'd expect from a club in swanky Georgetown waterfront digs. Bossa nova emanates from overhead speakers. A dark wood bar beckons from a corner, and there's a concierge on the second floor. But, wait a sec — is that a treadmill?
Yep, and those are weight machines. A glass-encased room displays 10 stationary bikes facing a 50-inch flat-screen TV. Oh, and that bar downstairs is serving smoothies and muffins instead of vodka tonics. What kind of club is this?
It's CycleLife USA (Cyclelifeusa.com). The two-story, 12,000-square-foot facility opened Nov. 13 and hopes to become a favorite destination of D.C.-area cyclists. "Our clients are going to range from commuters all the way to elite athletes," says general manager Pamela Kahn. But membership (which costs $300 per month, including perks like free bike valet and locker room use) will be capped at 150 people to ensure enough space in yoga sessions, indoor cycling classes and Pilates for cyclists.
Hesitant about committing that much dough? While the lessons above are for members only, anyone is welcome to schedule additional services that range from massages ($120 an hour) to private cycling and triathalon coaching ($225-$1,000 a month). Let's not forget the Bod Pod — a pod-like device that looks like a relic from the set of "Mork & Mindy." It measures one's body composition through air pressure ($100 per measurement).
Not quite at a Tour de France cycling level just yet? Not to worry, says performance director Josh Frick. "We can help somebody start from zero." Look out, Lance.

By Joe the commuter , Posted November 26, 2008 4:08 PMWow this place sounds absolutely fantastic. It's about time somebody did something this cool for the cycling world. When will there be one for me in Los Angeles?
