Munch the Vote: Election Food
EVERYTHING IN THIS town is political. So many people work for (or writes about, or contract for) the government, everyone talks about politics after work and everyone will be out in force for the giant election party that will take over the city on Tuesday night. But before that happens, you can chow down on political-themed food at local eateries that are using election fever as a chance to get creative with their menus.
The folks at Good Stuff Eatery have designed a burger to represent each candidate. The Obama burger sports blue cheese (get it?), bacon and horseradish mayo, and the McCain burger is stuffed with Monterey jack, red pepper corn salsa and chipotle mayo. Whichever candidate wins gets their burger on the permanent menu, but Good Stuff is keeping their own count — as of this writing, the Obama burger is outselling the McCain almost 3 to 1.
Not in the mood for a burger? California Tortilla has a burrito devoted to each presidential hopeful. The O-Chili-Bama burrito is tasty, but smothered in that strange fake cheese that every burrito restaurant seems to have on hand, but the McCain-chilada burrito has a delicious sauce that will keep you munching. CalTor promises that whichever candidate sells more burritos will also win the election. Difficult to see how they'll manage that, but we expect them to follow through.
If you just want to drink your political preference, head to the Caucus Room. They've got a "GOP Cosmo," which is red, and a "Dem Margarita-tini," which is blue and whose name is awfully confusing. They, too, are keeping a tally of how many of each they sell, but it closes Election Day.
