Reggae Loves Obama
REGGAE ARTISTS BOTH big and small have been peeling off one-drop riddims at a furious rate to help support the campaign of Barack Obama. (Surprisingly, I haven't run across any jams for Jah McCain yet.)
Below are 15 mostly reggae songs in support of the candidate. (I say "mostly" because I included a couple of calypso tunes and one African song in the mix.)
Cocoa Tea, "Barack Obama"
Mavado & DJ Green Lantern, "We Need Barack ("Yes We Can" & "On the Rock" remix)
Papa Michigan, "Barack Obama"
Wyclef Jean, "Live Medley" (He does an Obama for prez freestyle in it.)
Makadem, "Obama Be Thy Name"
Glen Adams, "Rise and Shine for Obama"
Blakk Rasta, "Barack Obama"
Prince Thompson, "Obama for History"
Barack Reggae, "Obama Row the Boat Ashore"
Barack Reggae, "Obama Beat Them in a Dancehall"
Sarah Lufungula, "Change" (Note: This song fits the theme, but it's TOTAL garbage. Honestly, one of the worst tunes I've ever heard. Congrats, Sarah!)
Rootstock, "We Want Obama" (Note: And this is the second worst song I've ever heard, even though it's a rewrite of Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff." Also, is that Old Ras Trent on lead vox?)
The Mighty Sparrow, "Barack the Magnificent" (Note: Not reggae, but synth-calypso from the Trinidadian legend.)
King Short Shirt, "Barack, We Love You" (Note: More calypso.)
Docta Musica WashiWara, "Barack Obama" (Note: Again, not reggae, but Afro-pop from Cameroon. OK, I guess I better wrap this posting since we've left the Caribbean.)
