Ghosts of Christmas Comedy: 'Scrooged'
HOW DO YOU IMPROVE upon a classic? Well, in the case of "A Christmas Carol," you update it, you hire Karen Allen to play your female lead, and you let the ghost characters go absolutely wild.
"Scrooged" features Bill Murray as the Grinch-like executive who doesn't believe in Christmas. Incredibly, he plays the straight man (sort of) to David Johansen and Carol Kane (as the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present, respectively), who bring a wacky energy that Dickens' tale never had.
The film balances the sentimentality nicely — and you can't argue with EatBar's "free movie, free snacks" policy. What else were you going to do on a Sunday afternoon?
