Sang for Change: Cocoa Tea

20090116-tea-ts.jpgFRIDAY: After it looked like Barack Obama was well on his way to wrapping up the Democratic nomination, and certainly after he became President-elect, songs about America's first black commander in chief came fast and furious. But one of the first songs about Obama was by Cocoa Tea, the awesome veteran Jamaican sing-jay, who has turned his early support into a solid gig (and pretty good song). Tea will give a toast to Obama as part of Zanzibar's inaugural festivities. Plus, there's free champagne 6-8 p.m. — you'll likely have the club to yourself while getting ripped and singing "Barack Obama, Barack Obama ...."

» Zanzibar, 700 Water St. SW; with S.T.O.R.M. and Shabaka, Fri., Jan 16, $40 (for limited advance tickets) all the way up to $750 (for bottle service), 5 p.m. and 4 a.m.; 202-554-9100. (Waterfront-SEU)
