Mystery Birthday: A Party for Edgar Allan Poe

Photo by Melina Mara/The Washington Post MONDAY: Apparently, all the New Year's parties weren't exhausting enough. It's the 200th anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe's birthday, and it's time to party like we're alcoholic mystery writers in the 1840s! WOOOOOOOO!!!

OK, it's a bit more genteel than that. The party's at the Smithsonian after all, so instead of an alcohol-soaked birthday bash, we'll be treated to a reading of some of Poe's work, accompanied by cake.

Mmm, cake.
