Wild, Wild Lights: Lamps for All Occasions
IT'S GRAY OUTSIDE. But you can brighten your interior without installing a living room fire pit. All you need is the latest in mood lighting: quirky lamps that, could they talk, might say, "I'm here for the party."
Besides, an eye-catching light source is, "part of your interior where you can make a statement, even if you're traditional," says Pixie Windsor of 14th Street's Miss Pixie's Furnishings & Whatnot. "Lamps are sculptures that are functional."
Know that lighting gels best when everything is illuminated in layers. Translation: If a room has a simple overhead light, use a funky lamp on the table or floor, not on both.
"Not every piece has to be a show-stopper," says Jason Claire of decor shop Vastu. "Don't do crazy all around. It's about balance." What a bright idea!
