Idol Chatter: Is Adam Lambert This Year's David Archuleta?
HE'S ONE OF "American Idol's" most lauded contestants. He came pre-loaded with serious stage experience and he even had a measure of success with his singing before he auditioned.
Once on the show, he was recognized at once as a tremendous talent and received constant waves of praise from the judges — except for occasional, predictable jabs by Simon.
The ladies love him — and some of the guys do, too. He's humble and self-effacing in interviews and appears to get along well with his fellow contestants and pretty much everyone else.
He was predicted for weeks to have a lock on the "Idol" title.
Who did I just describe? If the topic is "American Idol" season seven, it's David Archuleta. But step forward a year. Don't all of the attributes listed above also fit Adam Lambert?
Despite high expectations, David Archuleta didn't win "American Idol." Adam Lambert might not, either. And if he doesn't, it'll be for many of the same reasons.
Throughout season seven, Li'l David was hailed as the Idol-in-waiting — it was only in the final weeks that the eventual winner, David Cook, began to outshine him. Even then, though, many a reviewer — even yours truly — still thought Li'l D would come out ahead.
Here was the problem: Li'l David sang songs that, for all their pure vocal charisma, didn't reach as wide an audience as David Cook's.
You could say it's because Li'l David was more defined as an artist than David Cook was: Cook was a general studies rocker; Li'l David — if you look at his "American Idol" catalogue — geared more toward uplifting, inspirational songs. David Cook's songs ran the gamut, but were almost always radio-friendly tweaks that made even dusty old songs — Lionel Ritchie's "Hello," for example — seem current.
Adam has Cook's tune-tweaking talent, too — in fact, I think his song repair shop provides higher-quality service than Cook's did. But where he aligns more with Archuleta is in his nicheiness.
Adam's song choices are, to be sure, more interesting than Li'l David's were — and you'd think that the combination of masterful pipes and songsmithy derring-do would be unbeatable. But the chink in Adam's armor is also his most powerful asset: his style. Some call it showtuney, some call it "Broadway," some, like Simon, call it occasionally over-the-top.
Some absolutely love it. But Adam's approach can be so strong, so heavy-handed that it drives away some listeners even as it coaxes others in. The best example of this would be his much-discussed version of "Ring of Fire" — but this week's rendition of U2's "One" would fall into the same category.
Li'l David was taken down by a contestant who had a great voice and a solid fan base, but whose music and songcrafting skills had a wider appeal. Dude in his mid-20s. Grew up near the Mississippi. Plays a guitar. Also got some serious judge love throughout the competition. Ring any bells in this year's competition?
A final point: "Wait a minute," you'd say if you were standing here as I was writing this, "what about Simon? He's said again and again and again that he thinks Adam's going to win?"
Turns out, he's been wrong before.
Maybe Kris Allen isn't as much of a dark horse as some folks might think.
So will Adam suffer the same fate as Li'l David? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. And be sure to check out our "Idol" recaps past and future at ExpressNightOut.com/idol.

By Gully , Posted May 15, 2009 2:05 PMSad but true. Adam may end up as the second placer after all the hype about him. It's not because he lacks the audience but mostly because America is not yet ready for a bold and daring performer (especially the conservatives) not discounting the fact that Danny's fans will now vote for Kris. So really American Idol is a popularity and a revenge contest. But I'm happy that we came to know Adam. He has changed AI and showed us what a real competition should be. I don't think anyone can follow his act. If there will be anyone, it will be a copycat.
By thunder , Posted May 15, 2009 2:13 PMAdam Lambert is Adam Lambert. He is definitely a trendsetter and a record breaker, not to mention the fact that he is the best ever finalist that American Idol has produced. Having said that, he cannot be compared to anyone and probably after he is crowned, previous winners and future hopefuls can be compared to him.
By E.R. , Posted May 15, 2009 2:19 PMI truly believe that Adam does deserve to win this as he is the most talented singer and this is a singing contest. He is the total package! I also know that Adam is a winner in life as demonstrated in his gracious behavior. You're already an Idol Adam!
By reiley , Posted May 15, 2009 2:21 PMAdam is AMAZING@! He is so talented and has entertained us all season. He has earned the Idol crown. Vote Adam@! I am also proud of Adam because I work for the VA and while Adam was home he went to Miramar to sing for the troops and their families. He also visited the kids at his high school drama and signing departments and went back to the performing arts center where he started performing. He is truly the most talented and should win American Idol Vote Adam!
There seems to be this assumption that Middle America will not vote for Adam because they might question his sexuality. I have more faith in America than that. I think Adam will win because is more talented and a better performer. His choices including what to do when he returned home have impressed me and I believe will impress people in Middle America. He is the BEST choice, in my opinion, to win American Idol.
By PhDude , Posted May 15, 2009 2:23 PMEr, what?
David Archuleta became a frontrunner in the semis with his great performance of Imagine, then proceeded to stay in a balladeer box the entire rest of the season, and got panned for his two uptempo performances. If you want a parallel for him, it would be Danny Gokey, who also peaked early and never really had another stellar performance barring his one good night with Come Rain or Shine (and trainwrecked with Dream On).
Lambert has been flying all over the map all season, up/down tempo, rearranging, etc., taking risks. He's a lot closer to Cook, who stretched from straight-up rock to Phantom of the Opera land and also could deliver a mean ballad. Kris Allen and Cook have similar demographics, but that's really all they've got in common. Allen's a lot more like Jason from s7 -- the low-key singer-songwriter vibe; he hasn't really pulled off an uptempo/edgier performance.
If Adam loses, it won't be because he stayed in a box all season, but because he took too *many* risks.
By shalotte , Posted May 15, 2009 2:26 PMhey adam.....im one of your biggest fan....i love you......you can reallyy sing....well gotta go.....love jamie.....
By Jamie , Posted May 15, 2009 2:30 PMLambert is not Archuleta AT ALL. He has his own appeal, but it isn't the same appeal that DA had. Lambert has almost as many years as a paid theatrical performer than DA was alive. Their beliefs and backgrounds are completely different. DA didn't have "swagger". I voted for both Cook & DA. I don't think I'm interested this year in anyone.
By la , Posted May 15, 2009 2:32 PMAdam is the best. There is simply no comparison. David is nice and sweet but too young. Adam has the look and appeal in addition to his sensational singing ability and stage presence. He is my idol. Make no mistake about it.
By mary , Posted May 15, 2009 2:40 PMAll in all it won't matter. I know, Simon thinks it matters, but so what. Where are David Cook and David Archuleta right now? Side by side in Manila doing a back to back concert together. Where have they been for the last 8 months, doing concerts, doing their own solo tours. Neither one has been left out in the cold. If Adam comes in as the runner-up, he'll still have a record contract by the next morning.
By Marlie7 , Posted May 15, 2009 2:41 PMI know how concerned some Lambertines are that maybe, Danny's previous fan votes will be converted to Kris's favour. I've been reading feedback from all sites and I was surprised to see that one site supports both Danny and Adam as they want the two to be in the final 2. I am sure that all those votes will go to Adam. Those Danny die-hards who believe that Kris stole their idol's chance would also go to Adam. Of course, some votes will surely go in favour of Kris. But we cannot discount the fact that maybe a big portion of Danny's supporters will not vote at all, in respect of their ousted Idol. I am also aware of one faction that will fully support Adam on the final night and they have not shown America yet how powerful their voting machine is. So dont be surprised if Adam's lead outnumbers Cook's 12 million votes over Archuleta.
By E.R. , Posted May 15, 2009 2:57 PMUNFORTUNATLEY ADAM HAS TO PAY THE PRICE FOR JUST ..WELL....BEING TOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
By MICHELLE , Posted May 15, 2009 2:59 PMAdam is the best performer/singer we have ever had on AI.
All the rest are just decent singers.
over the top? maybe but, if it's about creativity and singing talent, he has them all beat.
i don't think we'll see another performer like this on AI again...
adam fans, VOTE your arsses off this week and put the right talent on top!
By suineg , Posted May 15, 2009 3:03 PMADAM LAMBERT will definitely be the 2009 AMERICAN IDOL...Kris Allen lacks star quality...I would never spend any money to go to a Kris Allen Concert or purchase Kris Allen music....I would purchase all of Lambert's music and go to ALL of his concerts.....ADAM LAMBERT is the most talented contestant to EVER appear on AMERICAN IDOL...He is no David (inarticulate) Archuleta.....
By logan casey , Posted May 15, 2009 3:25 PME.R. said, quote - "I am also aware of one faction that will fully support Adam on the final night and they have not shown America yet how powerful their voting machine is. ER is right, we haven't seen the voting machine Adam has poised to go on vote night. I think it will be astonishing.
By suineg , Posted May 15, 2009 3:32 PMAdam is the idol. I think he shoul win. I also thought that Danny should have been the runner up. Adam is cetainly an American Idol and I hope that he wins.
By Gloria Anderson , Posted May 15, 2009 3:42 PM"Is Adam Lambert This Year's David Archuleta?" - HELL NO!! I never liked David Archuleta. I voted for David Cook. For me, Kris Allen is more like David Archuleta. They're both boring. They can sing but they won't have my votes. I like a real deal, a great artist. I will go to Adam Lambert's concert or buy his CD's. For me, Adam Lambert is already the winner... GO ADAM!...
By Justin DQ , Posted May 15, 2009 3:45 PMSingers like Kris can be found anywhere, but one's like Adam are very, very rare. He is the reincarnation of Elvis and will be a superstar worldwide or maybe he already is. Vote for Adam!!!!!
By Jo , Posted May 15, 2009 3:49 PMDon't all of the attributes listed above also fit Adam Lambert?
oh.. NO ..no.. and HECK NO...
Adam is getting AI handed to him.
Anyone that believes David Archuleta was JUST a balladeer.. should do some homework.. David Archuleta had MANY song choices rejected and not approved.. in AI's attempt to peg him as exactly THAT.
Think about this shall we... the recording contact ... Jive signs who they wants.. and after the contract is over.. let's them loose.
It's not what America Votes.. if you believe 97 Million votes were cast last year.. you're nuts.
By xBrokenStringsx , Posted May 15, 2009 4:02 PMI wouldn't compare Adam to David and even David Cook. Adam is a superstar. I have to be honest, this year I was just going to watch Idol for the funny singers at beginning. Then Adam came and for the first time in many years that I watch Idol I actually voted madly for him. He is handsome and radical. He is a winner already. Adam is a star, Kris is your average radio singer, that is common. I have to be honest. After Adam.., I won't watch next season. He is by far the best ever.
By Veronica , Posted May 15, 2009 4:07 PMDavid Archuleta is so unbelievably talented. After Imagine, there were so many memorable performances . Let see there was Long and Winding Road, Smoky Mountain Memories, Standy by Me, Think of Me, Love me Tender about every song he sang was outstanding. Yeah most were ballads, but he touched people hearts. He still does. You will see Archi around for a long time to come. In my opinion He is way better than Adam. But I agree Adam is not my style. To me he is over the top. His attitude doesn't help much.
By lesssha , Posted May 15, 2009 4:08 PMI like David Archuleta but I think Adam is in another league from him. In fact, Adam is in another league from almost everyone who has competed on Idol and this is his problem. He's too good and some people like nothing better than seeing a person like that lose.
I also feel that American Idol will never stand for a winner who might be *gasp* gay. You only have to reference the ongoing homophobic banter between Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell to know that the show is not gay-friendly. I think they let Adam get this far because it would look strange if they didn't but allow him to win? No way.
By Sara , Posted May 15, 2009 4:14 PMIf you have enough talent, winning or losing doesn't matter. The winner has to suffer the heavy pressure of post idol success.

You are completely forgetting something in your theory: David Archuleta was talented, a frontrunner, etc. but he was in no way the sheer force and talent and uniqueness of Adam Lambert. Archie was a cute cute with a pretty voice singing pretty songs. Adam is a hurricane of sexual Elvis energy, stunning vocals, the self-assured ability to know that being a star is more than just the pretty stuff. He deserves more than anyone else in the history of that dang show to win.
By ravengirl , Posted May 15, 2009 4:33 PMAdam Lambert is honestly one of the most
talented artists I have ever witnessed in my life. He makes you passionate about him, and his music and music in general.
In reference to this article I think you are totally wrong. In fact I think you have it backwards. Kris is so similar to David A-
limited talent, small niche singer who does not shout "star" in any high degree.
He does not exude confidence either.
Adam will be a superstar-
By shelagh , Posted May 15, 2009 4:36 PMNot sure if it matters if Adam wins or not. The show has already given him the launch into the boarder audience he was seeking .. not all winners make the cut after the show ... the real test will be what happens after the show is over and Mr Lambert has the chance now to have a career he wants with or without winning ... not sure Mr Allen does
By janet , Posted May 15, 2009 4:52 PMNot sure if it matters if Adam wins or not. By janet , Posted May 15, 2009 4:53 PMAdam is not David Archuleta! Adam is much greater than that!! Adam has already put American Idol back on the map. The show is reaping loads of money on Adam being the main attraction week to week. Without Adam the show would be dull and lifeless. Sorry, but facts are facts. He is selling the most on Itues, most videos, most memorabilia and getting the most attention. That my friend is a true American Idol. Daivd Archuleta is not an Internation Superstar or ICON. Adam is all of that and more.
By Patti , Posted May 15, 2009 4:54 PMAmerica is afraid of Adam; his talent and his sexual energy. They will vote for the nice little boy from the mid-west. Kris is good but I've seen his act in almost every coffee house I been to. Adam, on the other hand, is different; really different, and that scares people.
By Roderick , Posted May 15, 2009 5:00 PMSorry for the other contestants this season, but a singer and performer like Adam only comes along once a decade or so. Adam is hot stuff.
I don't get the comparison with David A at all. I think he had one or two good songs at most, he had an immaturity of taste level, to me. I wasn't a fan. David C did come out of nowhere, though and kept getting better. I bought one David C song, zero David A songs and all of Jason C's songs, plus 3 Carly songs (wish I bought more of those.)
I was a fan of Jason's that year, because of uniqueness and musical taste. Too bad he couldn't keep up. Notice how they didn't go to 2 songs so early this year? Anyway, Kris is okay with me, but I didn't get the same thrill from him I got from Jason. Now Jason is signed to Atlantic records and writing and recording with judge Kara and others. ! I'll buy his CD, should be out soon.
I guess that's what it boils down to for Adam: he is thrilling. ADAM is the BOMB!
By Anne , Posted May 15, 2009 5:01 PMAdam is the best contestant ever to grace the stage of AI. He is this generations' Elvis. Go Adam - you will be a huge success. I love your humble attitude and sincerity - you will be successful and I know your mama is proud of you.
By sandy H2o , Posted May 15, 2009 5:01 PMyou cannot compare kris with adam. adam is already a star, kris is like a sad puppy with no personality. open your eyes!
By mada , Posted May 15, 2009 5:09 PMI can see your parallels between the two. However, I can only hope that Adam does not share Archuleta's fate.
By Green , Posted May 15, 2009 5:11 PMIt would be such a shame to see Adam ousted from Idol as second place. I know that many people prefer Kris's mellow and easy-listening style. But I believe Adam has showed time and time again that he is a chameleon. Yes he can be over-the-top, but he also can be gentle and tender as well.
I think what it comes down to is that Adam simply has the better vocals. With his heavenly range and great stage performance, I truly believe he can pull off any song he wants.
Also, to add my opinion about style, I think that someone who is so vocally versatile can conform to any style. Thus Adam can surely pull off any style that Kris has to offer. Adam chooses to be dramatic with his high-pitched wails. That does not mean he is not perfectly capable of being easy-listening like Kris.
However, the theory does not work vice versa. Could Kris pull off any thing that is Adam's style? No. He cannot go into the crazy falsetto. He can't work the stage and move like Adam. He just does not have the chops for it.
Adam definitely deserves the Idol crown due to his amazing vocal prowess and his ability to embody any musical style.
Recently Simon gave an interview and talked about how boring last year was. Simon says that he felt like he was judging robots. He said that this year was different because of Adam; Adam can become a worldwide superstar. Last years winners, this years contestants are light years behind Adam in every measurable ability. This is not a popularity contest it is a singing contest, the singer that preformed the best over the course of this contest should win. That man is not Kris it is Adam Lambert. The voices do not compare. The opera experts were asked in a San Diego News Network article by Valerie Scher to comment on Adams voice. “Adam has tenor-like qualities along with some of the darker shadings of a baritone. He can also soar into the stratosphere with a fearless falsetto. Lean, supple and attractive, his voice is versatile enough for a variety of styles. And his attentiveness to pitch, phrasing and breath control indicates he’s combining his musical instincts with a firmly grounded technique.” “Adam’s diction in this song (Track of My Tears) is impeccable, something that’s the hallmark of a great singer in any genre (Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald come to mind, but also Renee Fleming and Bryn Terfel). That ability helps him to bend syllables and color certain words, making the communication of the overall song a joy to experience.” No one can twist reality so much as to suggest that Kris out sang Adam or that last years Davids parallel this years contestants. It is Adam for the win.
By Kerry Kolsch , Posted May 15, 2009 5:19 PMI LOVE ADAM SOOO MUCH!!!! I GOT MY FINGERNAILS PAINTED BLACK TODAY IN MY SUPPORT OF HIM!! VOTE ALL 4 HRS!! DANNY VOTERS COULD GO EITHER WAY, THEY COULD SUPPORT THAT BORING KRIS CUZ THERE JEALOUS OF HOW GOOD ADAM IS AND WANT TO SEE HIM LOSE, OR THEY COULD VOTE FOR KRIS CUZ THERE MAD HE BEAT DANNY, THEY ALREADY KNEW ADAM WOULD BE IN THE FINAL 2 BUT NO IDEA KRIS COULD BE!! WE CAN NOT LET KRIS FOR ONE MINUTE HAVE THAT TITTLE, SO VOTE ALL 4 HRS!!!!
By ROBIN , Posted May 15, 2009 5:31 PMWading through both the David and Adam cheerleaders here. It's an interesting point, Greg, in terms of storyline. And I don't think you're so much likening Adam's style with David A.'s -- it's more about their story arc within the season. It's intriguing, and no matter how talented Adam might be, it's still not a lock for him, for all the factors you mention.
By EOC , Posted May 15, 2009 5:35 PMAdam is simply amazing, i loev his voice! he is prolley the best singer american idol will ever ever see. he doesnt deserve second place. he deserves first. He has his own unique style, and doesnt copy anything or anyone. he always sets himself out as an individual.
By megan , Posted May 15, 2009 5:37 PMWow. Comparing Adam to David Archuleta is offensive in so many ways to me (I should say offensive to David). As far as I can see Adam has none of David's qualities other than a great voice (assume you like Adam's rocker voice). To me Adam is WAY more like David Cook in most respects, and Kris Allen is the one more like David Archuleta. People seemed surprised that Archie didn't win, yet every poll I saw showed Cook in the lead going into the finals. If Adam loses it will be for NONE of the reasons David lost. If anything it will be because Danny's voters will vote for Kris.
By jwipe , Posted May 15, 2009 5:42 PMDo you guys just sit around and make up stuff to publish on Friday? This is a pretty worthless article. There is no way that Adam Lambert will not be the AI winner.
By larkwoodgirl , Posted May 15, 2009 5:46 PMAlot of you fell for it. By "it" I mean what AI did to David Archuleta. They saw in the auditions & first two performances who had the huge talent. So they did things to keep him in a certain place, so it wouldnt be decided so early. David A had alot of his song choices denied & flat out taken away from him. He reserved Aint Gonna Miss A thing 2 weeks before the semi finals until the producers took it away from him & gave it to Cook. He wanted to sing And So It Goes entirely a capella, but they wouldnt let him. He had to pick With You at the last minute & the producers pick Longer Than & even then he made a cool arrangement for it & the night before they told him he had to just sing it straight, no variations. there were alot of different things he wanted to do & they wouldnt let him. I think Adam L is talented & wish him well, but David is an incredible talent & checik out some of his You tube vids from his US solo & UK tours. He is incredible. Give him a chance. He treats everyone with respect & kindness, I just wish other people would treat him the same in return.Even just in comments like these.
By Banana , Posted May 15, 2009 6:08 PMI just wanted to clarify a couple things to my post dated May 15, 2009, 6:08pm. I think Adam L is quite talented. I thought sometimes to much screaming, but I caught a couple of his performances & they were really good. Humble? I dont know. I havent heard him speak enough to know, but I did see him choose a side when asked during the results show & I didnt think that was exactly humble, but I dont know him to say. I thought the singers last year were great too, I didnt mean otherwise in my previous post, just trying to convey the underhanded things they did to David thats all. Plus, the judges actions this year have been embarrassing & way over the top. I think in the way they've praised Adam, they were incredibly rude & disrespectful to the other singers. Which wasnt fair to Adam either. They are judges & should not be going on other shows saying who they want to win. Its not fair to any of the contestants. AI has no scruples or ethics. Its a shame, because the basic idea of the show is good, they've just ruined it.
By Banana , Posted May 15, 2009 6:32 PMadam is clearly the best talent on this year's show. whether he will win or not, will simply come down to whether america votes against him, because of his sexual orientation. if he loses it will show disgraceful discrimination. nontheless, win or loose he will out shine any of his idol competitors in the future.
By neil p. , Posted May 15, 2009 6:32 PMAdam deserves to win, I think his voice can't be compared to other contestants this season, though there are people who don't understand. He is good at any range, low, medium, high, falsetto? I think he can do pretty much everything. If he doesn't win, then I don't know what's going on on 'Idol'.
By Talitha , Posted May 15, 2009 6:35 PMDude, to imply in any way, shape, or form that Kris Allen had started to "outshine" Adam Lambert-well you are crazy. Allen is passable as a singer and performer, that's it. He sure isn't a David Cook. Come on!!
By Amy Jones , Posted May 15, 2009 7:02 PMare you crazy?? No one is like Archie..He is a idol teen star..
By Archiegirl , Posted May 15, 2009 7:11 PMdon't compare him with that guy..
no one is like Archie...
Adam is one of kind and how fantastic that we've had a free show every week! There was something stunning to be seen and heard with EVERY performance of his. "Ring of Fire" was, for me, the most exciting, thrilling performance I've ever seen on Idol! No matter whether he wins or not (and of course, no brainer(!), he should win, but those cute little tweens are dangerous--so VOTE often!), he will be a force in the world of music. I can't wait for his album..a little Elvis, a little Freddie Mercury, a lot ADAM!
By laura littman , Posted May 15, 2009 7:14 PMAdam is AMAZING vote for Adam! He is no David Archuleta
By PhDude , Posted May 15, 2009 7:19 PMThe facts are :1. American Idol search an Rock American Idol , like five years ago ? (Kelly, Bo bice , Constantine, Chris, Cook, Lamber)They need to change the name of the show . 2. Simon hates Teen Idols ( Diana D, Jordan, David, Allison) the show use them just for the ratings and to keep the teen audience, just for marketing .3. The favourite each year is the BEST !( The new Beatles, Freddie M, Elvis P ) same comments chaque year specially for the rockers contestants 4. At this time if you are soft singer and humble you are boring and lack of personnallity ; If you are rocker and humble , you have a chance to win: if you are rocker and not too humble you are GREAT! . 5. The mentors last year were Neil Simon, SIR ?, Dolly Parton, and Mariah, The Beatles sooo not. David A has not too many choices about the songs and when we know the producers wiill be always allow the manipulation in the song choice well.....6.Paula will be always in favor of 25-28 rockers males performers (again chaque year the same) 7. Adam Lamber has almost 28 years and a long experience like performer in Broadway!!! for me just an actor who sing good, David A has 18 and his career just star it, is very logic the target audience of AI (28-45) don't like him, and don't want to see him in the top of popularity, but is OK!!!he will be fine. SOOOO Lambert the Archuleta of season 8.....NOOOOO, Archuleta is waaaay too GOOD!
By tibitibi , Posted May 15, 2009 7:24 PMArchuleta and Cook would compare better to Gokey and Allen. Lambert is in a class of his own.
By artlesslass , Posted May 15, 2009 7:44 PMAdam Lambert is truly a class act extreme talent genuine humility and a voice surely blessed by God so Ameri, be fair and vote for the BEST SINGER on American Idol and that is without a doubt ADAM LAMBERT- I have faith in America they are fair and will do the right thing-VOTE FOR ADAM LAMBERT AS THIS IS A TALENT SHOW

Adam's OK if you like a lot of loud screaming,we all have our musical tastes, but where is the connection to his audience? He seems to be putting on an over the top performance every time -- FOR HIMSELF!! I bet he couldn't do a tender song if he tried.
By bonbon , Posted May 15, 2009 8:08 PMAdam is Adam, I've never seen anything like him before and probably will never again. He's so good that we've become complacent. We expect perfect 10's from him every night. The funny thing is he keeps giving us perfect 10's! PLEASE people vote for the best most talented singer, not Kris just because he's the 'underdog' and he sang a nice song last week. If Adam doesn't win AI will have lost all credibility with me.
By elw , Posted May 15, 2009 8:35 PMRight on, 'artlesslass'! I've never thought it that way, but now hear you said it, yup, I totally agree... Lambert is in a class of his own. Can't wait to see what Adam will bring to the music world in the near future... GO ADAM!!...
By Justin DQ , Posted May 15, 2009 8:47 PMyes Adam can sing
But archie is better singer than Adam that's all
:)
No one can sing like archie
By Ana , Posted May 15, 2009 8:55 PMNo one can sing like Adam
Danny Gokey fits David A better. I don't remember David A on magazine covers too. Adam is a star in the making, David A was a disney cute kid with a big voice. There's no comparison. PLUS, Danny was the frontrunner from the beginning. Adam earned his spot. Those of you who don't like Adam really need to get off of it.
By Nicole , Posted May 15, 2009 9:23 PMHUH!?!? Where do you live?!??! How could you EVER compare these two????????? What a MAD WORLD we live in.... ADAM IS BRILLIANT
By EPJ , Posted May 15, 2009 9:24 PMROFL!!! You cannot be serious to compare Adam ....not just with this other guy or anyone else?! Do you even watch this show because it looks like you have no clue .... ADAM IS GENIUS!!!!
By Erika , Posted May 15, 2009 9:26 PMNo - Lambert is not like Archuleta. I love David Archuleta and Adam does not hook into the same feelings at all for me. For Archuleta it was more than his stellar singing and heartfelt delivery - it was his humility, kindness and honesty. The only Season 8 Idol who has a somewhat similar personality is Kris, but he doesn't have the powerful audience connection Archuleta had. And for whoever mentioned Archie's ballads - he had plenty of upbeat and current song choices and even arrangements nixed by the producers with the usual 'can't get clearance' excuse. And the the show picked ballads for 3 of his songs including ugh Longer.
By Violet , Posted May 15, 2009 9:50 PMAdam is by far the best singer/entertainer that has graced the stage of American Idol. I loved his rendition of 'Ring of Fire' and he has creativity that is unbelievable. He should win this competition for sure (even tho I am a Gokey fan).
By Janice , Posted May 15, 2009 10:01 PMNo comparison at all!!! Adam Lambert does not even come close to David Archuleta!!! David appeals to all ages and in addition he's humble. I don't see that in Adam at all!!! What I love about David is that he sat down in the middle of the stage when forced to choose sides, whereas Adam actually chose sides. To me, that was very pompous!! Confidence is good, but overly confident comes across badly!!! David Archuleta will be popular for many, many years to come!!!
By NJS , Posted May 15, 2009 10:02 PMI don't know if that is true. David Archuleta has an amazing voice. But I won't be his biggest fan if it wasn't for his personality. He is an AMAZING person.

being gay is one thing being wickedly depraved,is quite another
liking to take pictures of yourself sticking your tongue down another guys throat.not real wholesome, not my idea of an american idol.time to change the name of the show.great singer loads of money backing him,no raw talent here, totaly polished, groomed to the max, elton jhon is one of my favorite artists, colorful he is and gay ,but not in a perverted way ,I don't know Adam but from all of the pictures he put on the web ,seems like a perve to me.

By Sharon Shannon , Posted May 15, 2009 11:15 PMAdam says he WANTS the title "Idol" and he DESERVES to WIN ! Face it Adam is the best and most charismatic entertainer that has been on "Idol" - EVER !!!
Let’s do it !!! VOTE !
Sharie
Adam Lambert has saved American Idol from sinking into ratings quicksand and for that alone, he should win. Forget that he has outperformed, can outsing, out charisma and ...well, I won't even go into the looks. As Paua said, Adam is I.T. and it really doesn't matter if a bunch of 12 year olds put Kris over the top. Adam is the superstar and everyone knows it and he is going to be "Cryin" all the way to the bank. And I for one will be paying whatever it takes to see him...the rest, not so much.

So far, they have said yes to me. Are they being nice only? Don't think so, they love Adam.

By nm , Posted May 16, 2009 12:14 AMI want adam to win but i am not worried if he doesn't win because he is already succesful. He will do good on his own. besides the american idol winner is not necesarily the most talented but the combination between revenge and sympathy.
It seems that the author of this article is so much more into glorifying Lil' D than wondering whether Adam will suffer the same fate as him. Archie is more like Danny this year. Top of the crop at the beginning at the competition. Both very good voices. Both peaked very early and then sort of failed to maintain that throughout the competition. Cook has traits of both Adam and Kris. The guy came out of nowhere like Kris who I didn't even know until the top 13 stage. David C was vocally superior like Adam and gave consistently great performances week after week. He steadily expanded his fan base every week like Kris did when Archie's failed to get any bigger. But I don't think Kris's fan base is large enough to tackle Adam's
By Jay , Posted May 16, 2009 12:33 AMAdam Lambert is an overrated screamer and being used by AI for ratings. He will never be crowned winner.
By Jackson , Posted May 16, 2009 12:39 AMDavid Archuleta is super talented. He has a voice that is like yoga, is calming and brings happiness. And I am not the one who said it, it came from Mcfly - the british band David was touring in UK. The UK audience was singing along with David. I am not even talking about his Asia tour. Adam can scream high notes. It bothers even my dog. If you have watched Idol Tonight before the show and saw Adam's interview, he said : he is a teacher, he likes to give advice. Giving advice to everybody is way too arrogant. He needs to learn how to be a little bit less egocentric. He might be good on Broadway, but he is not an idol. David is. He never chose any sides, he is the most humble person ever and he is so international even Mr Cook wants to tour with him to get some international attention. They are right now hours away from the epic concert in history of Idol performing at the arena that holds 100,000 people. David turns everything into gold.
By allie , Posted May 16, 2009 12:51 AMNo one can compete with Archie1!!! Adam Lambert will end up on Broadway and have only one hit single..the one that AI will choose for him. Otherwise he will be forgotten. David Archuleta will last a lifetime!!!
By NSmith , Posted May 16, 2009 12:55 AMThere was a point last year when Cook could do no wrong by the judges or the media, too. He was a perceived frontrunner from the Top 16 onward. Adam is more comparable to Cook than Archuleta. While Kris is a better singer and performer than Archie, he and Li'l David are about the same in personality. Shy and quiet. Adam is much more interesting--I don't think there's much to compare between the two.
By elle , Posted May 16, 2009 12:57 AMit does not matter anymore whether ADAM wins or loses...he's already a STAR!!! he does not need the crown of AI. ...HE IS THE ALL-TIME AMERICAN IDOL! I won't get disappointed if he does'nt win...he's already captured America by storm.. the votes mean nothing. ( it's one person voting 10 x) it does not capture the real number of fans that are rooting for ADAM.. so on finale night, I will sit back and relax and enjoy the ADAM singing to me.( and perhaps I'll vote 100x)
By flrtygrl , Posted May 16, 2009 1:03 AMI will never understand why fans of this show think something is wrong with the fans of the contestant going up again their favorite. I keep reading from the Adam fans that the Kris fans have something against Adam because of his sexual orientation or how different he is. (Kris fans do the opposite as well, slamming Adam by saying he screams and can't sing - so not true!) That is such a cop out by both sides. I happen to think Adam is a wonderful singer - couldn't care less about his personal life or choices, but I PREFER the type of music that Kris performs. I like his voice and how he interprets a song. I understand why Adams fans love him so much. I just like what Kris does better. Does it make one set of fans right and one set wrong? No. We are all just different. That's the reason why the world has rock, country, hip hop, etc. I think the right two made the finale and wish both of them the best. I would buy Kris' CD and while I can appreciate Adam's talent I wouldn't buy his music. America will vote and decide the winner, but both have a lot to be proud of regardless of the outcome. I think they both have the talent to have highly successful careers.
By domata , Posted May 16, 2009 1:06 AMArchuleta is in no way near Adam's caliber. ADAM' is way more superior of a singer amd performer than anybody that has ever graced American Idol!
By flrtygrl , Posted May 16, 2009 1:19 AMHow could anyone compare Adam to anyone this year..He gave the show class, with talent, and made you wonder what he was going to do each week...I have watched Idol for all 8 years and this year was awesome with Adam....Never went to an Idol tour show but am going to Kansas City to see them this year...(Adam Lambert and Allison)..They were great together in there duet....Vote for Adam....Kris is sweet but doesn't have the singing ability of Adam...None of them did....
By peggy , Posted May 16, 2009 1:27 AMOf course Adam will win because it is American Idol. And after that another AI producer will quit. Geez. Everything is done for the show, its not a talent competition, it is a popularity competition. What the AI think is more marketable will win the show and they make bad decisions. Whoever will be a runner up is the lucky one who will get off the AI hook. Winners dont have any say in their choices. Runner ups do. Look at Archuleta. He is more popular then Cook. People who see Archie live are all floored. Go see him perform live. You will become instant fan. EVERYBODY love David. I am not sure that i can say that about Adam. Will see.

By Becca , Posted May 16, 2009 2:03 AMAmen to that. No comparison between Lambert and Archuleta or Cook.
Been reading other blogs and other people are really very harsh with Adam and read it in Idolator (i think) that they didn't post some blogs coz there really homophobic/hurtful comment. I wonder how people can be like that. Most especially when the US is a first world country with supposedly very active "gay rights movement" and "gay marriages". Sad that some would deny their bigotry by saying "he is just too shrilly for me, too woman scream, etc...). Of course i understand that we have freedom of speech so anybody can say anything. It saddens me that people don't see true talents because of their biases. Win or Lose, Adam lambert is the best there is. The only reason for me to watch idol. I hope he wins as this would changed idol forever. Then maybe (just maybe) i would watch american idol again next year.
And can we get organized for Tuesday? Let's call our friends/family members to watch and vote for adam. I know me and 10 of my friends will be voting. Hope we can all pull together to help out. We are up against the mid-west block. Good Luck to Adam Lambert!
By marjorie2009 , Posted May 16, 2009 2:18 AMOnly time will tell, but I see Archuleta around for a long, long, time. Adam is also good, just different type of music than David. As for the person who said that Kris was a better singer than David, get your ears checked. When Kris sang apologize last week, it didn't even compare to when David A. sang it on the final result show. Archi is so in a different league than Chris. Sorry but Chris is a nice guy and cute, but nothing that stands out. The reason David A. and Adam are alike is they make people feel their music. It's different types of music, its just what you prefer. Therefore, Chris sings the type of music that I usually prefer, but I think Adam should win. I just don't think Chris stand out.
By lesssha , Posted May 16, 2009 2:27 AMLOL, Adam & Archie comparison, maybe similar storyline (from the outside) but no comparison other wise. Archie was a complete wimp & bore with a supercontrolling father. Yes he had a nice voice, but didn't connect well for me. This house of Regan Republicans will be voting for Lambert, the best to grace AI's stages. We don't care he's gay or a drag queen, he's simply THE BEST!
By E. H. , Posted May 16, 2009 3:27 AMhell no, he's no even close to Archuleta. the whole praise given for the wailing he did all the time had been blown way out of proportion. He can't even come close to David.
By touchmybodyla , Posted May 16, 2009 6:01 AMAdam's screaming singing is not radio friendly. He would be more appealing before a live audience because of his showmanship. Big voice Archuleta, however, is the whole package.
By JP , Posted May 16, 2009 7:04 AMAdam Lambert became popular after Ring of Fire that fascinated the viewers, scared some, mesmerized others, and repulsed Simon. Adam can't be ingored.little David could. Adam fans are addicted and his distractors are obsessed. There are homophobic articles published against him, yet his quiet inner strength and grace are commendable and unflappable.Lambert is mesmeriziing. When he comes on stage, he brings magic with him , and when he leaves the magic is gone.Adam's singing in a singing contest is outstanding in a group of mediocre to good.If you does not get the votes, he will still be the only one who will becomee and international superstar. His creativity is unbounded. He and sing any genre and do mulitple arrangements of the same song. He has already co written and written songs and is completely comfortable on stage. This kid is still far better than even his best fans recognize.Lambert wants to do his own thing. That day is coming soon and it will be fresh, new, exciting.
By iana l. , Posted May 16, 2009 7:21 AMAre you out of your mind? Did Archie create this kind of frenzy? Even if Adam doesn't win, he will be an international superstar. Archie is a nice guy, but come on he's not Adam Lambert.
By lcmc , Posted May 16, 2009 8:09 AMAdam is in NO WAY like David Archuleta!!
Agree with the others who said AI held down the song choices David A had picked. AI "makes" he winner happen by deciding what they sing. David A. has a remarkable career going (internationally) and Adam is a Broadway performer. No way these 2 are alike!!
I, too, find it offensive for David A to be compared to Adam --- it's like night and day!!
By Carol O , Posted May 16, 2009 8:11 AMYou have to be kidding. The only comparison between Lambert and Archuleta is they both sing One by U2. End of story. You hugest inaccuracy is regarding the pleaded of Simon's to vote for a contestant: last year, he was on Ellen and Jay LLeno touting Cook; this year on Oprah touting Lambert. Simon never promoted Archuleta outside of the Idol show. Archuleta was denied alot of his song choices and did the best with what he was given. He was not allowed to arrange many of his songs "out of the norm". Nothing against Cook as he is a great performer and individual, but it's all about the $$$ on Idol. The largest potential financial success gets pimped.
By prettyinpink , Posted May 16, 2009 9:47 AMI disagree. There is no parallel to Archie this season. Archie stopped getting votes because he started to underperform. However, he has come a long way since Idol and is doing very well. Kris is definitely the Jason Castro this year, whose performances always were downplayed so that he would not make the final two. Adam, if anything, is mostly like Cook in terms of the excitement and originality factor. However, he is a lot flashier than Cook and has used a lot of his theatre background to create a "show". The reason he is not leading in votes the way Cook did, is that his voice, though impressive, is the kind of voice that belongs on the stage, not radio. Secondly, his arrangements are hit or miss. He has a tendency to focus more on showing off his range and and less connecting with the music. I find that the biggest turnoff. What I do like about Adam is his eccentricitiy and boldness on stage, and when he does connect with a song like "Whole Lotta love"...Wow. . Those are the things that will end up defining him as a star.
By Fay , Posted May 16, 2009 10:03 AMomg! The Adam fanclub has descended on this site. Where were u guys when he was in the bottom 2? And last week when this amazingly talented guy was separated from Kris by a mere 1 M votes? Hmmmm. u guys write a good post, but do you vote a good vote?
By crimsontide , Posted May 16, 2009 10:19 AMAdam Lambert is the single, most exciting performer American Idol has seen in many years. If you've ever enjoyed Tim Curry in the Rocky Horror picture show or the flamboyence of Elton John (or Liberace), the sexiness of Prince, the stage presence of George Michaels, the wailing of Aerosmith, the heart wrenching stylings of Chris Issac, the good looks of Bon Jovi and the glamour of Cher, then you love Adam Lambert.
Yes, America...he is a bit theatrical, wears mascara like many rockstars, can hit high notes that make dogs tear up, and snarls eerily similar to Elvis...and oh, and is probably gay. But who cares?
He's here to entertain us, and you are not being true to yourself if you say that you can keep your eyes off him when he's on stage. This is the type of performer that make little girls squeal, make women want to throw thier panties at, and make men think twice about their own sexuality. Hell, I'm a 53 year old straight, married male and I'm ready to throw my boxers at him! (Maybe that's too much info). Bottom line is, no he is not what we may deem as a stereotypical American Idol figure, but he is (already) an international sensation.
His fan base is from 7 to 80 years old. Wow, what a wide spread demographic! Know what that means? Selling records. And a ton of them. Not that Kris won't sell a few records, he will, but he's no Adam Lambert. This guy has earned a place in our history and should be crowned our next American idol.
By chickc , Posted May 16, 2009 10:24 AMAdam is the most talented singer and performer. I can't wait to see American Idol every week just to see Adam. He can change lives.
By andrea , Posted May 16, 2009 10:24 AMI think the author was comparing their status . I think David Archuleta is way bettter in term of vocal . Adam is just a musical theatre artist who gives me headache w/ his every performance.
By Keith , Posted May 16, 2009 11:08 AMAdam is a novelty act for AI, he will not sell many records. He will be an incredible Broadway performer and that's it.
Therefore, he's no comparison to David Archuleta who is already a pop superstar of International fame.
By Lee , Posted May 16, 2009 11:11 AMCommon, how can Adam be compared to David? It is an insult to David! David's humble, caring and a very nice kid. His voice is pure, soothing and angelic. He warms hearts everytime he sings and smiles. Adam is too egocentric and thinks too highly of himself. I don't feel any connection at all to him everytime he opens his mouth. He doesn't sing, but screams and wails. All he gives me are cold chills..
By ECCH , Posted May 16, 2009 11:12 AMAs a David Cook fan, I could tell you were on the Archie train from the beginning. Completely discounting Cook's talent and doing the same to Kris Allen. Sure, Kris isn't blatantly over the top like Adam is (thank God!), but that doesn't mean the boy doesn't have talent. He's just a different kind of artist than Adam. Personally, I think they're both talented in their own way...but I can't imagine myself listening to an Adam Lambert album if he is going to do his "chromatic scale wail" on every single song. I'd much rather listen to the tender, emotional lyrics set to the sound of an acoustic guitar that Kris Allen gives us. It doesn't matter, however, as a few pointed out that both Davids are now successful in their own right. But I'm hoping for a Kris Allen win. Not only because I adore his musicality, but because I can't stand having a performer shoved down my throat the way the producers have done with Adam.
By dreamr , Posted May 16, 2009 11:37 AMArchie never had sex appeal.
By Splum , Posted May 16, 2009 11:42 AMI don't see the similarities, myself.
Adam better win!!
Let me just say, THERE ARE NO SIMILAR TRAITS OF ADAM TO DAVID A
By weeds48 , Posted May 16, 2009 12:10 PMYou compared Adam to David Archuleta? WOW...absolutely no comparing...David A. is MILES past Adam in talent. Adam couldn't sing an accapella version of anything. He screams, where you all call this falsetto. Take a listen to how Adam made the National Anthem a joke. Youtube it. UGH! What about Charles Barkley's Crazy? He botched that one too! I don't care if he is gay...I just don't hear what you all are hearing with his voice.
By WEEDS48 , Posted May 16, 2009 12:18 PMNo one is like Archie!!!
By Archie is the best , Posted May 16, 2009 12:26 PMArchie is a kid of 18 and has achieved great things in his career..
and Adam is an adult man of 28...
Archie is the future of the music industry! His success and popularity only keeps growing..When he was on idol many idol fans never bought his music like they did with Adam or Cook. So Archie had to conquer other public to achieve succeess, that's why he doesn't depend on idol so much..
when he was on idol, his sales only sold 5,000 records but when he promoted his music in other places his cd sold 12,000 records...
i mean most of his fan base is out of idol, and that's why he can survive without the idol promotions./..
he is a star by his own..love u archie...
I agree that Adam Lambert is a great singer, performer and seems, a caring person. But, let's face it, he has many years of performing experience over all the other contestants. Yes, Kris can sing, but performing is something that he must learn, just like OJT (on the job training). I feel that either could win, when you look at the whole picture. However, Adam entertains the audience more than Kris. Good luck to both Adam and Kris.
By Louise , Posted May 16, 2009 1:00 PMLouise
Adam Lambert is simply amazing - an extraordinary talent and thanks to American Idol we have found him.. Clearly the little boy from Arkansas will win but that doesn't change anything. I will vote for Adam because he seems to want to win but I can't wait for him to be off this stupid show and with his fans where he belongs>
By sarah , Posted May 16, 2009 1:00 PMway, way off base comparison/conclusion in this article.
adam is an original electrifying performer whose comparison to david a. is nonsensical.
he should win the top spot on ai, but it matters little if he does or not. he'll be the first contestant on idol who will achieve superstardom. once he shakes free of his idol contact he'll be selling out arenas... and he may very well make the jump to movie star.
what's a shame is the state nowadays of the entertainment industry that an artist of this caliber has to go on a televised talent contest to achieve exposure.
By celtcwrtr , Posted May 16, 2009 1:01 PMWHAT? ADAM LAMBERT IS THE BOY GEORGE OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM! ARRGHHH! GO BOY GEORGE!!!!
By Ramon Valdez , Posted May 16, 2009 2:00 PMI think Adam is the best EVER. I know there are those who hate him. My fear is that most of the Danny fans are going to vote for Kris. If only 1,000,000 votes seperated the top two, this could easily go to Kris. My other fear is that the phone lines will be too busy. I got only 15 votes in after 2 hours of hitting the redial. I think this is how Clay Aiken lost.
By laurellen , Posted May 16, 2009 2:40 PMAdam Lambert is a fabulous performer, but he's no recording artist. Great visuals, but I would not want him shrieking out of my car speakers. I shook my head miserably at his screeching renditions of Zeppelin and the Stones. I really don't think we have seen anything all that original - or what what Adam Lambert sounds like. Or what he looks like when he's not using shoe polish to cover his red hair and a quart of makeup base to cover his freckles.
By Karen , Posted May 16, 2009 5:12 PMIt's faux rock and roll. And I prefer the real thing. Elvis Presley had orginal talent and Adam, you're no Elvis. An you'e certainly no Steve Tyler or Robert Plant. There's a reason you have not made it big yet, babe, and it's not exposure.
LOL Weeds, taste is subjective but you are deluded if you think Archuleta has more talent. He is musically stunted too - the kid likes JBros FGS. Can not even songwrite. Adam meets all ends of his register with ease - low, high and the billions of layer-tones in between like only Plant can. He's covered almost every genre that exists. Look him up singing Whole Lotta Love than look up Dust In The Wind - I'd love to see your little boy even attempt that LMAO. David is not only wet and has a limited vocal range, he sings like he has a permanently runny rose. Can not STAND his annoying voice.
By Green , Posted May 16, 2009 6:08 PMAdam has a great voice so does Placido Domingo but you don't hear anybody saying he's the best in the world. I'm extremely happy about the Kris-Adam finale, would have prefered Alison instead of Kris but certainly not Danny. In spite of being an AA fan this season I wouldn't go that far to call Adam 'best ever...' Don't undermine the finalists from previous seasons. The majority of them were as good as Kris and Adam. The record sales will tell. Let's praise Adam when he sells million records. I'll buy his record but noone else around me will. My friends and neighbours call his singing screeching and screaming. I'm a lonely Lambert fan. So anything can happen...
By Mary , Posted May 16, 2009 8:21 PMThis David A- One- Medley-Idaho Falls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiCXxI5cLpU this is good Singer he has the connection with the crowd and feel the music and have the technique, a is Truly artist who want share his soul with everybody.
By tibitibi , Posted May 16, 2009 11:37 PMLamber- One - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZyeIWP-oWE good voice? sure, but again he just play a different role each week, here most screams than anything. Great future like Broadway performer , even like actor in musicals films...well he's from California, I'm sure bussines people from LA have ready the contract for him, he's 28 i really think he just want a contract . For me he's not a genuine artist.
I can honestly say that I have never been as entertained throughout any other idol season as I have this year. And that is thanks to Adam Lambert. I'm simply amazed that people compare him to ANYBODY else. Ridiculous!!! I have no doubt that with his versatility he will be successfull at WHATEVER he choses to do after idol. If he wins idol, and I believe he deserves to win, I really, really hope that he has more control of the music that goes into his cd than revious idols had. As Jaime Foxx said on Ellen.... if Adam does the right record..... he will shoot into the stratosphere. GO ADAM!!!!!!!!
By luv4adam , Posted May 17, 2009 9:33 AMLet me start by saying that David Cook NEVER EVER outshined David Archuleta!!! As a competitor he tried and so did everyone else in AI Season 7, but failed to do so. As we all know David Archuleta OUTSHINED everyone. He put his signature on every song he sang!!
Let’s not not compare anyone to David Archuleta. Nobody will EVER come close. Humble and Humility is David’s middle name along with James.
We can TRY and make a “comparison” but everyone will fall short to be equal!!
Yes David’s music and song choice were Inspirational and uplifting with exceptional tone and maturity for a 16/17 year old young man, which is what caught everyone’s attention and put him as a front runner.
David Cook’s songs on the other hand, like you said, were more the radio-friendly old songs with a “ROCK Edge” — “Hello” by Lionel Ritchie. I LOVE Lionel Ritchie’s version better!! I grew up listening to him.
Lambert is first “A Performer”. He knows how to work the stage and as well he should. He has been in this business all his life, it’s second nature to him. He does have a huge voice, but where I have a problem is how he HAS to show us how loud he can scream and how high he can go. By doing so, it just takes away from the song and sometimes you would forget what the song was all about!! One more thing, THAT tongue has to go back in!!
Adam is definatley an old style Rocker!! If he were a true Artist he would have never made a “mockery” of “Ring of Fire” and destroyed “One” by U2. Rock is one Genre I do not like!!
I for one have always said the two MOST popular Genres in the United States are ROCK AND COUNTRY. Not the only two just the MOST popular!! Therefore, David's music, song choice and Heavenly voice although praised and loved -- the ROCK Genre prevailed!!
Why David Cook is under POP is to be argued because he is definately a Rocker!
As you can see by the two — you DON’T need to have amazing vocals or be a true Artist to succeed in any of the two.
Don't worry yourselves Adam Lambert fans..... He will NOT lose! So he will NEVER have any similarities to David Archuleta!!
DAVID ARCHULETA is an exceptional Artist vocal galore!! Check out "Angels For a Cause". It's a website of all the different charities David is involed in!!
By China80 , Posted May 17, 2009 10:07 AM"America is afraid of Adam; his talent and his sexual energy. They will vote for the nice little boy from the mid-west."
Hmmm. An interesting assessment. Darling, you're parents/grandparents were in love with Jim Morrison (Doors) and Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin). I don't think they're "afraid" of sexual energy...
But they do know a poser when they see one, and the inauthenticity of Adam Lambert is painful to watch—and could be his downfall.
It is the genuineness of Kris that is so attractive. American Idol isn't just about SINGING...any more than Miss America is just about beauty...or haven't you figured that out yet?
By imxio , Posted May 17, 2009 11:14 AMAI is a voting competition! Adam has been talented enough so far to make it Top 2 in spite of everything! Is America ready for a change of mentalities, no sure of that. Will talent prevail over prejudice not sure either, but Adam is a winner no matter what as he dared to challenge AI in everyway shape or form!
By Joan , Posted May 17, 2009 4:50 PMADAM FOR THE WIN!
Wow, Greg, churned up a hornet's nest of opinions on this one!!
By virginia , Posted May 18, 2009 9:41 AMI agree with Greg! He is obviously not saying that their vocals are the same, but the way this season has played out thus far is very similar. And Adam is definitely more polarizing (still not a fan!), as lil David was. This week should be interesting =)
By AJ , Posted May 18, 2009 10:56 AMcoming in second isn't all that bad. just ask david archuleta who is a superstar right now. he had is own very successful solor tour here in the u.s. he recently toured in the u.k. with the popular band mcfly. he performed recently in singapore and malaysia and he just held a phenomenal concert with over 50,000 people in the philippines. he will be touring again in the u.s this summer. there's no stopping him and i enjoy watching him having the time of his life. he so deserves it. if adam comes in second, hopefully he'll be very successful too.

By weeds48 , Posted May 18, 2009 11:45 PMBWAHAHAHAHAH! I've been taught to find humor in an ugly situation! You cracked me up with your "he likes the JBros FGS! Where DO you get your information? His favorites are NOWHERE near the JBros! Also, he IS a songwriter. Wrote his first when he was just 14 years old. It's your choice to not like his VOICE. Just wanted you to know he is a songwriter, and on his list of favorite singers...you won't find the JBros!!!
You can only compare Adam and David as far as how the show has gone in respects to they both were frontrunners early on and they both put their all into every performance to the very end(assuming Adam does this last time).
I agree that Adam is a great performer and love some of the stuff he comes out with, but sometimes the screaming all in one note gets old. I do believe that Adam will have a huge career after idol though.
There is a difference in the way I feel about Adam and David's musical abilities though. When Adam sings and performs, I feel pumped like I've been to a party and I have to tell you I laugh all the way through his performances. It's like it's a funny show because you never know what the heck is coming next.
With David Archuleta he completely makes you feel like you are alive after hearing him singing anything. And unlike Adam, David Archuleta can sing ANYTHING! If you don't know this, you should check out his album. He even has an awesome Rock ballad on there! David A. brings out so many good feeling emotions in a person with his music and I've been to 3 of his concerts and his performances have rocked too. It's because when he sings, he feels everything he sings and puts it all out there for us! David A. will be a huge megastar in the future.
Everyone talks about how Adam looks like Elvis, but David A. puts the feeling into his performances like Elvis did. You come back with butterflies in your stomach. I really hate that so many people wrote David off just because he was young. He was supertalented young, what's wrong with that. And what's wrong with supporting a super talented young person just because you aren't a teenager?
After all that being said, I hope Adam does win over Kris. Kris, in my opinion does not compare to David A. either - David A. is way more talented. Overall I think Adam is better than Kris and Adam should win. But idol has their own opinion of who should win and because I think that David A. should have won last year and that even though David A. probably got more votes, Cook was their choice. And further, no way they can convince me that Adam was in the bottom 3 that one week - it's all a reality show and they need to produce drama!
By Julia , Posted May 19, 2009 4:43 PMOh good, a new fan group trying to claim their Idol is greater than all others. Bad-mouthing other Idols and previous Idols will get your nowhere. Praise your favorite and leave the others out of it. They are all different. Their voices, music, and personalities appeal to different people. Your personal taste is not inherently better than anyone else's. Choose to get along. Peace.
