Charming Artists: Artscape

ALL WEEKEND: Contrary to snobby D.C. opinion, there's a lot more to Baltimore than crabs, aquariums and baseball. Baltimore has one of the biggest independent art and music communities in the country. What makes the Charm City art scene so, um, charming, is the fact that most of the artists and musicians hold a super casual, unpretentious attitude about their work.
So, it makes sense that the country's largest free public art festival, Artscape, is located in the little city to the north. The Bolton Hill neighborhood shuts down its streets to host artists of every stripe, from DIY crafters to paint-splatterers. Head there to buy, browse or take in any of the numerous live musical performances that accompany the festival.
» 1200 block of Mount Royal Ave., Baltimore; Fri., July 17-Sun., July 19; 12 p.m.-10 p.m., free, 410-752-8632.

Them be my artcars! I will be there Saturday this year only with only one car. Trouble is that artscape wants to keep us independent-very independent. They send all the artcar money out of state. Volunteering for them is like volunteering to help stock shelves at Macys! I will do it regarless but cant find the energy to bring all the cars for a festival that can't find us any funding. See you there. By the way aretscape is asking for donations! They have a $800,00 budget- we get nothing so if you go to artscape and like the art give directly to the artist.
