Do The Reggae: Toots and the Maytals

Toots and the Maytals
WEDNESDAY: Talk about staying power. Toots and the Maytals, lauded as kings of both reggae and ska, have been going strong for over 40 years.

In fact, they popularized the term "reggae" in 1968 with the classic, "Do the Reggay." With a voice like Otis Redding and moves like James Brown, frontman Frederick "Toots" Hibbert sure knows how to fire up a crowd.

Be sure to do the reggay on down to the 9:30 Club tonight to see these icons.

» 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW; Wed., July 22, 8 p.m., $26; 202-265-0930, 930.com. (U St.-Cardozo)
