GOLD'S CHALLENGE

Men on the Move

For 12 weeks, 6 Express readers are competing for $5,000 and a one-year membership to Gold’s Gym. Over the weeks, challengers will rack up points for losing unwanted weight and winning fitness challenges. The challenger with the most points at the end of 12 weeks wins.

Our challengers are working out with Gold’s Gym Personal Trainers, who help them maximize their results using Gold’s Five Components of Fitness: Goal Setting, Nutrition, Cardiovascular Health, Resistance Training, and Education & Professional Assistance.

Last week we focused on the three women in the challenge: Jamie, Kim and Meaghan and we took a look at what sort of positive changes they were making to their diets. This week we’re checking in on the three men in our group, and finding out how cardio is playing a role in their new routine.

Lose Yourself in a Great Workout with Cardio Cinema
Anthony is working out at Gold’s Gym in Fairfax Station. His personal trainer, Cameron, recommended the RPM Gold’s Gym Group Exercise (GGX) class for Anthony’s cardiovascular health. When Anthony is working out on his own, Cameron suggests that he take advantage of the Cardio Cinema at Fairfax Station. It’s a dark room with a 32-foot movie screen, surround sound and cardio equipment instead of seats.
Cameron’s Trainer Tip: Energize your workout by adding entertainment.

Accelerate Fat Burn with Intervals
Greg is working out with Michael at Gold’s Gym in Rockville Town Square. Michael created a structured 6-day workout plan for Greg, including 3 days of cardio workouts. Greg has also made great strides improving his diet. This week he lost 6 pounds - that’s 13 pounds since the start of the challenge, enough to put Greg in first place!
Michael’s Trainer Tip: Jump-start your day and metabolism with early morning intervals.

Buddy Up!
Larry is working out with Chris at the Midtown Gold’s Gym. He’s been using the elliptical and Cybex arc trainers to get a good low-impact cardiovascular workout, and his endurance has improved noticeably. Larry and his girlfriend have been working out together, which is helping to keep him motivated. He’s lost 3.8 pounds this week!
Chris’s Trainer Tip: Making yourself accountable to a friend is a great way to stay on track.

Our challengers meet with their Gold’s Gym Personal Trainers each Tuesday to improve their physical fitness. Membership information at: www.goldsgym.com
