The Golden Idol: Kris Allen

Kris AllenDOESN'T IT SEEM like "American Idol" is always in the headlines in some way or another? Most recently, The New York Post reported that top-dog Simon Cowell, who was paid about $35 million last year for his role as a judge, will rake in between $100 and $144 million this upcoming season. Then a few days later, Paula Abdul's manager told The Los Angeles Times that "American Idol" isn't inviting her back; direct quote from Abdul's manager: "I find it under these circumstances particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful." Maybe they're giving her money to Cowell?

With all that hubbub, it's almost as if the actual contestants of the singing show sensation could get lost in the mix. But not if you're season eight winner Kris Allen, who became victorious in May, and not if you happen to be one of the stars on this summer's American Idols LIVE! 2009 Summer Tour. Along with runner-up Adam Lambert (who seems to be getting all the press, thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil and all the media tongues wagging about his sexuality) and other top-10 finalists like Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds, Allen is traveling all around the country until Sept. 15, when the tour ends in New Hampshire.

But before that tour bus stops at the Verizon Center Tuesday night and those talented kids launch into covers of artists as varied as Alicia Keys, Heart, Tears for Fears and The Beatles, Allen answered our five questions about how the King of Pop inspired him to make music, whether Jimmy Fallon is actually funny and what fans should expect from his new album.

» EXPRESS: You've said before that your love of music and experience with it began at a young age. Was there ever a specific moment when you knew that music was what you wanted to do with your life?
» ALLEN: [When I was] around 6 or 7, I bought the "Dangerous" album by Michael Jackson on cassette and listened, danced, sang to it non-stop. The moment that I knew that music [was] what I wanted to do with my life was the summer after freshman year of college, when I wrote my first song.

» EXPRESS: While on "American Idol," you performed with huge artists like Keith Urban and Brian May of Queen. What were those experiences like, and are there any artists out there right now who you would dream of performing with?
american idol 8» ALLEN: Performing with Keith was a cool experience because he is so down-to-earth -- [an] amazing musician and a nice guy who was easy and fun to work with. Singing with Brian May was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had because I'm a huge fan of Queen, and he is incredible. My dream would be to work with Paul McCartney.

» EXPRESS: Since "American Idol" wrapped, you've been on tons of shows, such as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Access Hollywood," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "Live with Regis and Kelly," and "The Today Show," and sang the National Anthem at the 2009 NBA Finals. What appearance was your favorite, and why?
» ALLEN: "The Jimmy Fallon Show" was my favorite because it was the most laid-back and fun. He made fun of me, which was nice, and he kept singing "All She Wants to Do is Dance" and made up his own lyrics to it. I also felt the interview went really well.

» EXPRESS: It was confirmed that you signed to Jive Records and that your major-label debut is scheduled for a release in the fall. Are you currently working on it, and if so, how have you found the time? What should people expect in terms of sound, style and content?
» ALLEN: Yes, we expect the album out in the fall. We are currently working on it during the tour -- when I have "days off" of the tour -- and will hopefully wrap things up during the months following the tour. The album will probably be pop/rock, with hopefully a little bit of something that will surprise the fans -- in a good way.

» EXPRESS: What are your hopes for the rest of the tour, the rest of the year and your career in both the short-term and long-term future?
» ALLEN: Hopes for the rest of the tour: I hope that every show goes as well as it has up to this point. By the end of the tour, I would like to become a better performer. Rest of the year: I hope that my album goes well and fans are as excited about it as I am. Long-term: That I'm able to do this for as long as I want to. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I am truly grateful that "American Idol" has given me this opportunity.

  • Adam gets more press...."thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil?? Are you kidding me? or haven't you been listening. Well the joke will be on the media when Lambert becomes bigger than Elvis and Jackson before him.

    By nhglam , Posted August 3, 2009 7:44 AM
  • Just had to laugh when I read this interview. Lambert also gets more press because he's unique and talented and has a voice that can reach the stratosphere. Allen doesn't get the press because IMO he's boring and run of the mill. There are a heck of a lot of artists doing what he can do, and doing it much better. I was at the concert in Charlotte NC and I can attest that the amazing strength of Lambert's voice even took me by surprise and I've been listening and playing rock music in the biz for the past twenty years. Saying that Lambert's press is all glitter is an insult. You really need to get out more.

    By FrancisM , Posted August 3, 2009 8:12 AM
  • He may have won, but how can you call him golden? I for one think he is tarnished by the fact that Adam is the real talent. Adam is the main attraction. Kris has been booed all over the US. Arkansas got the most votes in but the rest of the world loves Adam. It is sad for Kris, because had he placed in the pack as he deserved to people would not be walking out on him every night.

    By Chris , Posted August 3, 2009 8:23 AM
  • Lambert will become bigger than Elvis and Jackson? LOL. What a joke! not everyone likes him. All he does is SCREECH.

    By kika , Posted August 3, 2009 8:28 AM
  • Thank you for the nice interview with Kris Allen. He is such a down to Earth guy, and a great talent.

    By amy , Posted August 3, 2009 8:29 AM
  • Anyone who claims that Adam with his extraordinary vocals, sexual male beauty, mesmerizing stage presence and provocative dance style has to rely on eyeliner to get attention is just, well... dumb.

    By Ellie , Posted August 3, 2009 8:39 AM
  • There have only been a handful of transitional pop artists over the decades...Sinatra, Elvis, The Beatles, Michael Jackson...Kris Allen?? Sorry, don't think Allen belongs in that company. However, Adam Lambert is on the trajectory to join that elite group. Not, as some slick music reviewers might say because of eyeliner execution; rather, it is his other worldly talent that keeps surprising even his most loyal fans. A new star was born in a supernova explosion and has descended onto earth. Even the most arrogant of naysayers will have to someday admit to the unlimited talents of Adam Lambert.

    By Kathy K , Posted August 3, 2009 8:39 AM
  • OMG the disillusional bitterberts are hallucinating again. Lamebird bigger than Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson??? LMFAO! Wow this is great because everyone can now laugh at the stupidity of these cougars' comments and they will not able to edit them. LOL!!!

    By Shirley , Posted August 3, 2009 9:22 AM
  • Um, Shirley, I'm not a cougar. I'm a 31 year old straight male and I agree with FrancisM above. Kris is a dime a dozen in our industry. Adam Lambert is unique. I'm not saying that Lambert will be bigger than Elvis, that's kind of absurd at this point in his career but there is a good possibility that he's going to skyrocket in the pop music world. Allen's voice doesn't impress me in the least. He's John Mayer/Jason Mraz light. If you're taking bets my money's on Lambert.

    By Quince , Posted August 3, 2009 9:38 AM
  • C'mon now, saying that Adam Lambert is only getting press "thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil and all the media tongues wagging about his sexuality" is both incredibly condescending and equally clueless. He isn't getting rave reviews for his concert performances, kudos and respect from influential people iwthin the industry, and the opportunity to work with some of the best in the business (at their request) on his upcoming album because of those things. He is a rare and unique talent, with unbelievable charisma and a once-in-a-generation voice. Where that ends up taking him remains to be seen, but he has the potential to be an enormous success. Nothing "bitter" about that.

    By Sharon , Posted August 3, 2009 9:43 AM
  • Ah, Shirley, calm down honey! Lambert fans have absolutely nothing to be "bitterberts" about! I think it's the Kris fans filling that role these days!

Honestly, both Lambert and Allen are talented artists. But if a reviewer like this guy decides to insult one of the two then you have to roll with the punches and expect the fallout. Oh, and I'm not a cougar! I'm 22 years old! And me and my friends I think Lambert is hot and amazing. He's unique. He's proud of who he is. He's talented and he seems like a sweet and genuine person. Adam's talent is more than his eyeliner. Shame on this interviewer for insinuating otherwise!

    By Sara , Posted August 3, 2009 9:44 AM
  • Adam certainly did get extra press because of his signature style and discussions about his sexuality, but he also got it--and continues to do so--because of his amazing talent. Kris is talented, too, but there is no reason to put one AI finalist down in order to boost another. The competition is OVER, which many fans and, obviously, this interviewer, seem not to realize. To see how Adam's talent is being received around the country, all one has to do is check out all the many positive tour reviews he's receiving. He obviously won't appeal to all, but I think one would be hard-pressed to say he isn't talented even if he isn't their personal favorite.

    By Teri , Posted August 3, 2009 10:05 AM
  • Adam receives press due to his amazing talent, have you actually taken the time to do the research?

    By Cindi , Posted August 3, 2009 10:34 AM
  • Anyone who chooses to laugh at predictions of Adam's future is foolish. Adam will not only take the music industry by storm but I believe that movies are in his future as well. He is an actor, performing since he was ten. His stunning looks are made for the big screen. Top producers are interested in him already. Can anyone say Gramys, Oscars?

    By George , Posted August 3, 2009 11:05 AM
  • America chose right! Kris Allen doesn't need flashy clothes, props, and makeup. It's all about the music. A true artist.

  • Wow, another reviewer who is willing to throw Adam under the bus just to create traffic to the site! I think you just threw Kris under there with Adam for your own selfish reasons. You had a chance to give Kris a good untainted review, but instead , chose to create controversy by slamming Adam. Both are talented, both are very attractive. Both seen like guys who make there parents very proud. I am looking forward to seeing both of then when they come to Michigan.

By Wicked Glitter , Posted August 3, 2009 11:59 AM
  • Kris Allen has NOT been booed all over the U.S. What an idiotic statement.Hhe has been getting great responses from the crowds at all the tour stops and been getting very good reviews as well. Anyone who thinks he's being booed needs to check out the YouTube videos of his performances -- if anyone is booing, they are being drowned out by the wild screams!

That said, Adam Lambert has been getting the crazier crowd responses and the best reviews of anyone on the tour. Some of Adam's fans are a little TOO invested -- they b**** when he doesn't come out to the after-show meet&greets. News flash -- a concert ticket does not entitle anyone to an autograph or a 10-second conversation with Adam -- it simply entitles you to the actual concert.

What some "fans" refuse to acknowledge is that BOTH of these guys are extremely talented. What is so bad in accepting that, rather than turning everything into a Kris vs. Adam debate? It is beyond tiresome and I'm sure neither Adam nor Kris appreciate "fans" who are hateful about the other guy. As you should know, Adam and Kris are great friends who have stated numbrous times how talented they think they other person is. It's too bad some of their "fans" refuse to see what's right in front of their eyes if they weren't too obnoxious and stubborn to admit it.

    By gemma , Posted August 3, 2009 11:59 AM
  • Exactly, Cathy. And these overzealous Adam fans posting their bitter and defensive comments everywhere are doing themselves, and Adam, no favors.

    By Greg , Posted August 3, 2009 12:04 PM
  • Exactly, Kathy and gemma. There is room for both these guys in the music world. These overzealous Adam fans who feel the need to tear down Kris Allen are doing themselves, and Adam, no favors.

    By Greg , Posted August 3, 2009 12:06 PM
  • It's kind of sad that Adam Lambert fans have nothing better to do than troll the internet and coment on articles about Kris Allen. If you have so much faith in Adam, then doing this is not even necessary. If you all had shown this much passion and obsessiveness on the night of the final, all you had to do was pick up the phone and vote for Adam, then he would have won. Continuosly trying to trash Kris or anyone else is a huge waste of time.

Kris won, but they both have a chance to have a career. And seriously, it makes no sense to make these outlandish claims about what their careers will be like. Neither has accomplished anything yet, except appear on a reality television show.

    By Cherrie , Posted August 3, 2009 12:08 PM
  • Yes, Adam did get press, in the beginning, because of his unique style and his sexuality, but now he gets all the press because of his performances, his otherworldly voice, the crowd responses he receives at the concerts which are probably 90% Adam fans, and producers clamoring to work with him. He's unique and different from anything we've had in a long time. Arkansas got their hometown boy the win but the world will give Adam the success he so rightly deserves. I just hope he handles it better than Elvis and MJ did.

    By Jo , Posted August 3, 2009 12:21 PM
  • Adam gets more press...."thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil?? Are you kidding me? or haven't you been listening. Well the joke will be on the media when Lambert becomes bigger than Elvis and Jackson before him.

Isn't that a teensy weensy bit presumptuous? I mean, great, if it happens. Kudos to him!! But, personally, I'd like to wait until the album drops before I put that kind of expectations on someone who is only now breaking into the music business, at an age where Elvis and Michael were already established artists.

I love Adam but this kind of fanaticism only makes me worry for him that if he doesn't achieve stratospheric success, the same people who are so keen on building him up will be the first ones tearing him down.

    By KradamBomb , Posted August 3, 2009 12:28 PM
  • @ Greg, Cherry, Gemma - i think you are missing the point here. Everybody can accept a good write-up. If the perspective is balanced. What i see here is that the writer gives good review on one singer in the expense of another by maligning the others ability. I am not a fan of AI but have watched here and there. I side with what is just and this is not. To make it to the top 10 means they are good and that they deserve a chance at stardom. A writer is supposed to give balance review. If they can't say anything nice then they don't have business to print anything.

    By marjorie , Posted August 3, 2009 12:38 PM

  • "Along with runner-up Adam Lambert (who seems to be getting all the press, thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil and all the media tongues wagging about his sexuality) "

Wow! What a homophobic statement. Never thought i will see this again after Adam came out. Why can't people just accept that Adam has talent? Why do they have to put him down to these statements? I voted for both Adam and Kris and i've read a lot of write ups about both of them. I think Adam fans react because of homophobic write-ups that doesn't recognized Adam's talents. I can understand why guys are scared of admitting that they find Adam okay. It seems that guys feel that when they say Adam is good it is liking gay people. And it threatens their masculinity. They fear that people might question them if they say what they really think. Sadly their also women who are homophobic. It saddens me because Adam is really really good. And for him to be judged by bigots is really really sad. Am also sad for Kris coz he will also be tainted by write-ups like this. I know he wouldn't want people to think that of Adam as well.

    By kara , Posted August 3, 2009 12:51 PM
  • The attack of the Killer Glamberts. The main thing they will kill is Adam's career.

    By Vickie , Posted August 3, 2009 12:55 PM
  • I don't like Adam...his style of music actually, but I don't go to Adam articles and whine. I wish Adam's fans would grow up and move on.

    By Deana , Posted August 3, 2009 12:55 PM
  • Wow...people need to take a joke - that's how I read the Adam line - as a joke. but I think we all need to take a step back on our predictions for both of these guys and wait to see what their albums are like before making out there predictions. Neither has put out their own music so to claim that they will be the next greatest thing in the world is just ridiculous. Also, they are so differnt that there is room for both of them in the music world.

    LOL

    By Johnny , Posted August 3, 2009 2:39 PM
  • Oh, Johnny! You're so special!

What do Lambert fans have to be "bitterberts" about?

Adam's popularity? Adam's talent? Adam's movie soundtrack deal? Adam's Mad World playing over ABC's new fall show? Adam's merchandise selling out on tour? Adam being mentioned in Kara's press release by Simon Fuller? Adam being lucky enough to NOT be associated with No Boundaries?

No Johnny! We're not bitter! We're very happy.

    By Mac , Posted August 3, 2009 2:50 PM
  • Deanna:

You said you don't go to Adam's interviews and whine. Thank you for that however, it's probably because I haven't seen an Adam interview (not review!) yet that actually mocks Kris, insults his talent, or uses thinly veiled slurs against him like this reviewer did to Adam. If the time comes and you see an interview that does what I mentioned then I will in no way fault you for defending your favorite performer.

Lambert's talent is much more than the glitter and it's sad that this interviewer had to knock down the runner-up in order to give the winner a bit of much needed press.

    By JazzFan , Posted August 3, 2009 2:58 PM
  • I find Madams action of his gay crush on a married man awful. Get a man of your own madam, gee 27 year old and still single, whats is your defect anyhow. No wonder why Kris holds you under his magic spell.

    By QUEENROSERED , Posted August 3, 2009 3:12 PM
  • To gemma, Kathy, Greg & Cherrie: I couldn't have said it better myself. I agree with you 100%.

To Jo: You really need to get your facts straight. Arkansas did not give Kris the vote. This was verified by AT&T and AI that the number of votes cast from each state is NOT disclosed and Kris won fair and square. There was false info leaked to the press. Kris won votes from all 50 states. Another thing, several media outlets have stated that the reason Ryan Seacrest didn't announe the difference in the number of votes for each guy was because Kris won by a far larger margin, it wasn't even close. Why are you reading an article about Kris Allen when you are obviously a bitter Adam fan? Didn't you mother every teach you, "If you can't say something nice about someone, then don't say anything at all." They are both extremely talented and I wish them both great success.
Kris & Adam are great friends and amazing guys. Wish more people out there would show some of the class and respect that they have shown to each other.

    By Wanda , Posted August 3, 2009 3:51 PM
  • Wanda:

Again, please explain to those of us not in the know, why other than not "winning" AI and I use that term loosely, why Adam fans should be bitter about anything?????

    Thanks.

    By Sam , Posted August 3, 2009 4:14 PM
  • Kris and Adam have shown us that we could get along regardless of our differences. I always enjoy their interaction especially during the Hey Jude and Don't Stop Believing numbers in the show. They clearly respect and love each other as human beings. People who say they admire either one of them should take their cue from their respective idols. RESPECT OTHERS FOR THEIR PREFERENCES!!!!!!!!

    By Barbara , Posted August 3, 2009 4:38 PM
  • I also found your reference to Adam Lambert insulting. I agree with many of your responders who state that Lambert is receiving media attention for FAR MORE than your reference to "eyeliner and sexual orientation." I think everyone knows better. He has incredible talent. Period.

    By belle , Posted August 3, 2009 4:51 PM
  • Wanda: I'm far from bitter. Adam is better off without the AI stigma so I could care less about him being in second place. All I care about is that he is successful and he will be because he has the fan base instead of just power texting votes from one area of the country. The concerts have already proved this to be the case.

    By Jo , Posted August 3, 2009 5:23 PM
  • To state that Adam gets all the press because of eyeliner and his sexual preference shows that this writer is profoundly out of touch and should not be a journalist. I'm not impressed. I think Kris is great but who wants to read an article about him fom someone who says that about Adam Lambert? it could only be a mediocre article that misses the point.

    By anja , Posted August 3, 2009 6:13 PM
  • Thanks for your article.
    Kris is Golden!

ADAM'S singing is awful. He scares the hell of me of his PAINTED FACE and TRASHY DANCING. I don't go to Adam's articles because I don’t want to waste my TIME.

    By jackson , Posted August 3, 2009 8:00 PM
  • Kris Allen, the sweetest American Idol, won my heart with his soulful charisma, flawless vocals, and impressive instrumental skills on the AI shows.

Kris (24) keeps growing stronger and stronger on the stages. I'm really proud of him.

Thanks for an excellent interview with Kris.
    Go Kris!

    By forquan , Posted August 3, 2009 8:07 PM
  • Why don't you open your ears? Adam gets attention not b/c of being gay and some freakin' eyeliner, but b/c he's a sensational singer and he has the entire package!!! What a stupid, insulting thing to say.

    By Cate , Posted August 3, 2009 8:11 PM
  • The HEADLINE news is full of “scandals, murders, rape, transsexual…”now a day. Anything that is different/weird/sexual got news press. Adam Lambert painted his face and nails, and he rolled out of the closet, so he got the press. Not a surprise.

"Adam Lambert (who seems to be getting all the press, thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil and all the media tongues wagging about his sexuality)" WELL SAID.

    By matt , Posted August 3, 2009 8:27 PM
  • The Golden Idol? What does that mean? Kelly is the Golden Idol or Chris Daughtry is the Golden Idol... You really are so funny and I smell homophobic

    By Jazz , Posted August 3, 2009 9:02 PM
  • How insulting! Adam's got more media attention because of eyeliner and sexuality. Where have you been? Obviously, you don't know a dam* thing about music because it is Adam's vocals that garnered him the attention. The other attention happened only because he was so far superior to anyone else on the show. I agree that you should not be a journalist. BTW, I am a senior citizen and a fan or Adam and Kris. Your article just reeks of ignorance of your subject matter. Do your research.

    By Edith , Posted August 3, 2009 9:08 PM
  • I have been trying not to compare any one performers talent because I like both singers. But when someone makes a commment that Adam Lamberts fans didn't vote for him , or that kris won all 50 states, well that just pisses me off! My daughter and I tried to vote for 3 hours that night and could not get thtough. We kept getting busy signals, and I want to know why? my mother taught me to honest, but I quess that doesn't count anymore. It's always about greed and ignorance , amd I'm sick of it.

By Wicked Glitter , Posted August 3, 2009 9:10 PM
  • Kris is the Golden Idol! True!

"All that glitter is no gold" is the best sentence to describe A Lambert. He is full of trash talking (had a crash on a married man) and trash dancing (stripping on stages). Lambert's imitation of Elvis is the most he could do to his rabid fans.

    By pinkdonut , Posted August 3, 2009 9:11 PM
  • To Cherrie: I did try to phone in my vote. I tried constantly for 4 hours and could only manage 18 votes because lines were busy. Yet I understand a 5 year was able to text thousands of votes in Arkansas. I am a senior citizen, and I did pick up the phone to vote for the person who was clearly the most talented. There is no disrespect intended towards Kris because I have found him to be more adult than most people on these lists. He is also talented, and I wish him nothing but success. But, as Simon said, he was not the best singer or performer. American Idol does what it wants. There is no way to officially verify anything. Just because ATT says it's so doesn't make it so. I have been around long enough to realize this. Adam was too hot for them to handle, so Kris won. However, as you noticed, they jumped to sign Adam immediately knowing that's who is likely to be the superstar.

    By Bill , Posted August 3, 2009 9:17 PM
  • Kris performing with Keith Urban on the finale was my fave part. Both are artists with great Chemistry between them. I wish someday in the near future that Kris and Paul McCartney could work on a cd together.

I can hardly wait for Kris’s debut album in Nov. I heard Kris and Chris Daughtry worked in a LA studio recently. I like Kris and Chris. Could you please find out more about their collaborations?

    Enjoyed reading your article. Thanks

    By popmusic , Posted August 3, 2009 9:28 PM
  • Sam, I never said that Adam Lambert fans should be bitter about anything. There are some Adam fans that are very respectful and also happen to like Kris as well, even if Adam is their fave. What bothers me is when some kind words or adolation is given to Kris, there are some people that just can't stand the fact that it's not all about Adam. Hey, I'll admit it... I'm a Kris fan but i adore Adam as well. I think he's a gifted performer, an amazing talent, etc.. and would never say anything negative about Adam. I love the friendship that these guys have developed and I love KRADAM! If it came across that you thought I was saying Adam fans are bitter then I apologize because some are very respectful but there are a handful that are hateful, you have to admit.

    By Wanda , Posted August 3, 2009 10:44 PM
  • Crazy that the author of this article slams Adam. That just ruined an opportunity to talk about Kris in a positive light. Adam is in a league all his own and eyeliner is not the reason. He is a phenomenal performer!!! Kris is adorable and I like his music - but when it comes to the ability to ROCK MY WORLD - Adam has it hands down. What ashamed for Kris that this aurthor had to slam Adam instead of write about Kris.

    By JLM , Posted August 3, 2009 11:00 PM
  • Jo, You say you aren't bitter, however you say that 90% of the audience is at the concert to see Adam. And you know this how? From what I've seen at the concerts, watched on youtube, talked to friends and family members across the u.s., this is nothing but a statement of b.s. Sure Adam gets the loudest screams (except Arkansas) and you know what?, it doesn't matter! Kris and Adam are completely different artists and people need to STOP comparing them. They are both very excited for each other. Also, you mentioned power texting in Arkansas. HELLO... this is the 21st century. Anyone who is 'tech savvy' knows how to power text. My son said, 'Mom, everyone does it that votes!" It was also stated in the media that people from Adam's hometown of San Diego know how to power text so please get over it. Does it really matter? Both Adam and Kris have said this wasn't a competition between each other, they were both just trying to do the best they could, get exposure, and live out their dream of creating music. I hope I didn't say anything to offend you, but I'm just so tired of people that can't let it go. Kris and Adam are both extremely talented and deserve the accolades that they are receiving. I just wish people would stop with the negative comments when their favorite is not the topic of the article. Kris & Adam are the best representatives of what acceptance, love, admiration, and respect should be about. For those of you that haven't already done so, go to youtube and check out Kradam videos. These two guys are beyond amazing. I say congrats to both and they are both winners. I wish them nothing but love and success in their careers!

  • ANJA Couldn't agree more. Not only have they not done their research but they also took the laziest approach to journalism there is. A Q&A - no need to write a story just put down the questions and answers to them.. bam there's your story. And for all those people saying why read a Kris story if you are a Adam fan, when you google adam lambert this story comes up. Which is why the writer included the lame sentence about Adam. Purely to get hits - it was not relevant to his Q&A.

    By SCat , Posted August 3, 2009 11:10 PM
  • LOL! Adam receives press cause he is the most talented Idol not only this season but, every other single one.

Is sad when to remark somebody else talent, there is a "dark" need to insutl somebody else.

Which is the purpose of this article which btw, all in verticals is really hard to read (?)

I like Kris, he is super nice but let's face it... he is not the gold Idol.

    Time will talk.

    Cheers.

  • Missed opportunity to talk about Kris. Why did you have to go and slam Adam and trivialize his amazing talent?? You are a bit foolish I'd say because you could have just talked about Kris and his talent instead of being rude about Adam's fame. To be honest, Kris is adorable but not in the same league as Adam.

    By Jana , Posted August 4, 2009 12:07 AM
  • "thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil and all the media tongues wagging about his sexuality"....How shallow is this? are u fn kidding me? OMG, the bloggers are getting all dumb. It is so sad to see bloggers attack a sweet talented individual like this. What is more disturbing is that she is comparing Lambert to Kris which is absolutely outrageous. Lambert is completely in a different league. I have 10 cousins who can play that guitar and have that low-key tone, everytime I see them singing that I get scared that they'll pop a blood vessell because of all that pressure....just like Allen does. Anyways, I have had enough of this bloggers...for god sake stop talking about cultural differences, talk about talent and be honest. I am sure you are a huge fan of adam's musical talent, I bet you watch youtube in your bed every night and get too excited everytime you see sexy adam....lol

    By Joe , Posted August 4, 2009 12:19 AM
  • I have to question how the Krisfans would feel if this article were reversed and talked about how Kris only won because of Adam's sexual orientation and nothing else. You'd be a little pissed off. To reduce Adam to nothing more interesting than his eyeliner and his sexuality is incredibily insulting to Adam because he's far too talented to dismiss him outright in that manner.

That isn't bitterness on the Adam fans part, that's reality. Why even mention Adam at all in an interview with Kris? I've seen plenty of interviews with Adam where no other idol is mentioned. There doesn't seem to be a need for it other than generating hits online. I have to assume that this article would've went largely unread had the name Adam Lambert not appeared in the body, therefore causing it to show up on google alerts.

As for Adam being bigger than Elvis and Jackson? Try to dial your expectations back a bit. Adam is still an unproven talent even if he is amazingly talented. Nothing is guaranteed and he still has a long road ahead of him before he achieves even a modicum of their success.

  • " runner-up Adam Lambert (who seems to be getting all the press, thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil and all the media tongues wagging about his sexuality) "

Oh, I see! My and apparently many other people's mistake. I thought Adam was getting the press because of his immense talent and stunning performances. Thank you for correcting us misguided mortals.

    By Frankie , Posted August 4, 2009 8:00 AM
  • This is the second article I have seen today about Kris that mentions Adam for no apparent reason other than to make sure it comes up on the countless Google searches for Adam Lambert. Way to go, guys! What a way to admit that a piece about Kris Allen would almost go by unnoticed.

    By Phoebe , Posted August 4, 2009 8:30 AM
  • The only bitter fans are Kris fans, (most comment on Adam pages they are all over it saying really negative things,) their guy won but they just can't stand the fact that reality is showing that Adam is by for the most popular, more talented and gets far for press, he has already won awards, is up for two more awards on Teen Choice ,has two soundtrack songs on a movie 2012 and new TV show FlashFoward, plus Queen, Springsteen, Slash to name a few are wanting to work with him. You Kris fans are so lame and always putting Adam fans down calling us bitter, what a joke, we have nothing to be bitter about, Adam is becoming Iconic, and I sincerely hope Kris will have a good career, he is not my fav.he is a different artist and I really like him as a person, he is a real humanitarian, something his fans are sorrily lacking.

    By Will , Posted August 4, 2009 9:00 AM
  • America DID NOT chose right!Adam is far more and MUCH more talented than Kris.Adam is unique in every way - he's
delliciously handsome, extremely talented and such a nice person.I am not bitter at all because I know Adam will go far in the music industry and probably in movies, etc.

I wish Kris a lot luck as he pursues his endeavors, as well.

    By virginia , Posted August 4, 2009 10:47 AM
  • Wanda: It's articles like this that cause us Adam fans to want to protect him. Bringing up his eyeliner and sexuality for no reason other than to get hits and because he's probably a homophob is enough to upset any Adam fan. It would be better if we all just ignored writers like this but we don't. I have nothing against Kris, I just have something against the way he won but that's not his fault. Also, I'm so sick of Kradam and will be glad when Adam is off on is own.

    By Jo , Posted August 4, 2009 10:51 AM
  • I love Kris because of the way he has been so humble as the entire world overlooks him for Adam and I will buy his music. I think the friendship that he and Adam have formed will be of great value to both of their careers. As far as the reason for Adam getting more press, the voice is first and everything else about him, which we love and can't get enough of comes after the singing. (Okay, I am lying, it is all equally fantastic).

    By Lisa , Posted August 4, 2009 11:06 AM
  • By introducing the phrase "who seems to be getting all the press, thanks to his precision with an eyeliner pencil and all the media tongues wagging about his sexuality" on Adam Lambert, you showed your complete ignorance on the real reason he is getting all the buzz and the loudest cheers at the concerts from coast to coast.
Everything else, with the exception of Kris Allen's quotes, is suspect from there on in.

  • First, the claim of 38 million Arkansas votes has never been denied. The Idol rules have it at their discretion to allow power texting votes to count or not. There is a conflict of interest between a fair vote and profits for the corporate sponsor, AT&T. That is why these votes were accepted by Idol. Second, Kris is being booed in many places. I witnessed it here in Florida and this was posted:D.B. Cooper’s American Idol Tour Recap — Atlanta (07/31/2009)
    2009 August 1
“Every time Adam’s face appears on screen they shriek, every time Kris’s appears they boo. These boos have character and meaning and are imbued with self-righteous indignation and pure hatred. These are “the South will rise again” boos.” Adam will be fine, but Kris fans who deny reality are fanning the flames of hatred when the continue to insist that Kris is more talented and has more fans then Adam.

  • None of this surprises me. The majority of people cling to security and resist change. In musical history, the introduction of greatness is always welcomed with frenzy by some and fear by others. I hope you all find your musical "comfort zone." It won't stop Adam Lambert from changing this domain forever.

By Terry Helm , Posted August 4, 2009 12:26 PM
  • Every two bit writer in the country wants to take a hit at Adam to get attention. Too bad no one wants to read about Chris unless Adam's name is mentioned.

    By Darcey , Posted August 4, 2009 12:31 PM
  • There is a lot of criticism in these comments aimed at Adam fans for defending their choice. Most Adam fans are also Kris fans and wish the best for both young men. We are forgetting that what caused the negative comment was this article claiming that Adam's attention was a result of eyeliner, etc. If the writer had simply interview Kris and not shared his obvious homophobic viewpoint with the rest of us, none of the negative comments would have happened. Adam's fans are no more loyal or no more obnoxious than Kris' fans. Unfortunately, both sets of fans share some nasty qualities. Just remember that it's all about the music, and we'll see what happens when their albums drop.

    Go retweet this cutie
    Kris is our Golden Idol!

  • Kris Allen is well known as an ARTIST AND MUSICIAN and Adam is best known as a Broadway style PERFORMER.

The title of this article is Kris Allen. Kris’s name was cited 9 times and Adam’s name was cited once. How could bitter Adam fans find it thru google? I guess, they just had way too much free time on web surfing.

    By dave , Posted August 4, 2009 3:32 PM
  • Kris is an amazing artist and i am a fan but.
i like adam more. i am a Kradam fan. i never ever voted for kris but i liked him..he deserved the crown because he has talent.THAT TALENT SHOW IS A FRICKEN JOKE! i think adam is not a diva and kris isnt just a collage boy with a gutiar.so can we all just get along? your boy.and my boy.do.
so why cant we fans get a long as adam a kris do? gooooood you guys MAKE ME SICK!

    By Rachel , Posted August 4, 2009 7:01 PM
  • HA, when i saw your title I thought you were going for the Biblical reference - when Moses returned to find his people worshipping a "golden idol" - A FALSE IDOL - you do know that story, right? And what a golden idol means? too funny. But then I realized you were just trying to get hits by mentioning Adam Lambert in a snarky belittling way. You very precisely exposed your homophobia, jealousy, and dismissal of Adam's astounding talent all in one sentence by reducing him to "eyeliner", which is offensive.

    By wtdp , Posted August 4, 2009 9:35 PM
  • To Cassidy & Darcey: You are living in la la land. Unfortunately, there are the 'few' rude fans that boo. And, to tell the truth, Adam has been booed as well. Did you not hear about the obnoxious rude fans that picketed outside the arena in San Jose with the anti-gay signs? I think it was appauling! And... this was in California, NOT in Arkansas. When the Idols performed in Arkansas, they said that the crowd was the best they had seen so far. Why can't people on these posts just get along and accept the fact that both of these guys are extremely talented and deserve respect. If you don't like one or the other that's fine... You can't compare Kris and Adam because they are completely different in their styles of music. Let's give both of them the kudos and respect that they both deserve. To the rude, disrespectful people that have nothing but negative comments, I say get a life and grow up. Congrats Kris and Adam... You are both winners and amazing talents!

    By wanda , Posted August 4, 2009 10:35 PM
  • OMG, I can't believe this b.s. is still going on! Come on people...can't we just move on and feel some love for both of these amazing guys?

    By wanda , Posted August 4, 2009 11:38 PM
  • This post is so redundant and I'm sick of the negativity! Don't want to post any more comment because it's obvious that they don't matter anyway. Kris and Adam, I hope you both find love, joy, happiness, and success in all that you do. PEACE OUT PEOPLE...WHY CAN'T WE ALL FEEL THE LOVE?

    By wanda , Posted August 5, 2009 12:03 AM
  • I agree completely. Such negativity here.

  • Have to admit that there is something VERY unassuming and attractive about Kris Allen. Kris' heart for music and people--He genuinely loves to play and love on people. This Jimmy Fallon bit I have seen--but I kept laughing this time because of what Kris says, "...it was the most laid-back and fun. He made fun of me, which was nice..." WHO says that accept people that CAN laugh at themself. I think it IS funny he wears the same shirt every IDOL Live performance--but what you figure out (if you are even 1/2 paying attention) Is that he IS who HE is...that says more than words or a voice or even a song.

Personally, American IDOL means someone that I REALLY can and WANT to look up to. Kris, America decided, we really love Adam, too, BUT WE look up to you! Keep doing what you are doing and be who you were created to BE!

  • Adam Lambert is getting all the press
because he is a STAR. He is the whole
package and the "IT" factor. I think it
takes a little more than guyliner and
sexuality to hold ones interest. Try his
    amazing vocals, multi octave range,
brilliant performer, super nice person with
a great personality and he is easy on
the eyes. Actually there isn't enough
room here for me to write all the
    raves for ADAM LAMBERT.
    kRIS aLLEN? wHO?

By jan lynn , Posted August 5, 2009 9:57 AM
  • Adam WAS the winner. Adam got a recording contract same time as kris, Adam got a BETTER car than Kris, Adam got the same amount of tour songs as Kris and Adam has 10 times more fans than Kris and Adam has gotten 100 times better reviews than Kris and most people are going to the concert and raving about Adam.

Its the Kris fans that are bitter. Adam was the real winner and Kris knows it. Its time his fans know it too. I like Kris but he in no way compares to Adam. Arkansas did Kris a big disservice by cheating at the voting game. All AI is is a voting game, nothing more.

  • And this Roxana chick needs to dump her homophobia. She has no business being any kind of journalist with the terrible interviews she does an the ridiculous comments she makes. She should research her subject before she writes. She is not only homobphobic but has other prejudices too!

    By kathy , Posted August 5, 2009 12:52 PM
  • OK. This is the first time I have been moved to post. If you are going to write an article, get the facts straight and don't bend the truth. It is insulting to say Adam got all this media attention because of his guyliner & sexual preference. That's old news. Would it be insulting to say Kris got as far as he did because the little girls thought he was "cute"? Come on--guyliner and cuteness will only take you so far. It's just as insulting to say only "cougars" support Adam as it is that only little girls are crazy for Kris. I was at the Dallas concert & there were little girls & tons of teens & twenties screaming for Adam & screaming "Adam I love you!" when he came out to sign. Both have fans of all ages. Did I see many more Adam fans? Yes. Did Adam get way more response with screaming and dancing and on their feet than Kris? Definitely. Did more people scream every time Adam's picture flashed on the screen? Definitely yes. Were there tons of fans that were screaming Adam's name when he came out for autographs while Kris was already out there signing? Deafeningly so....maybe like spotting a rare bird. Do I like Kris? Yes. He is adorable, extremely cute in person, extremely nice, and seems to be a very admirable soul which I highly respect. Did I enjoy his performances on the tour? Yes, more than I even had anticipated. Did he have great fan support? Definitely so. Is he talented? Yes, and no one should deny that regardless of their taste in music. Will I buy his album? Yes, look forward to it and wish him the best of success. Does he have a voice with amazing vocal range I am totally awed by and have rarely heard before, that no one can truthfully deny if you have any ear for music at all? Did he keep me on me feet the whole concert and on a high from his performance and vocals for days & days afterwards? Did the roof blow off the place with screams like no other when his set came up? Sorry, but that was Adam. Do I need to degrade one to support the other? Absolutely not. Support who you want without insulting the other. I feel no need to do so. It is ignorant and untruthful to deny talent. Love to see it, wish I had it. And while I'm at it...wishing for World Peace. Here's to bright futures and dreams. Hope Adam and Kris achieve theirs.

  • It sucks!..Adam get press not because of the eyeliner thing or his sexuality but he has the talent...uniqueness..yOU'RE mAKIng us laugh!watch out in what you say!..You better think before telling something!.

    By Chin , Posted August 5, 2009 11:42 PM
  • I think you dont need to remember all the Adam's put the eyeliner on his eyes because all the peoples already know's it. And if you think Kris tell he dont like Adam's I think you need to hang for a long time . Adam is a better singer than Kriss and all the population know's that and I think it is just about the homophobic peoples than Adam dont win the old american Idol, but Adam are the only Idols this year to have 2 standings one to Simon Cowell and one from Smooke Robinson. Its big to have 2 standings and more Adam are in the bottom 3 just one times and kris are in buttom 3 a couple times. You all know's that Adam ave a huge and amazing voice and BTW he have all the most publicity's than any have on season 8 + in the tour it is him who the fan's love the most, Its the really winner when you saw how the fan's love him. So wake up man, and forget the homophie because Adam will be a huge star more than you never heard in your live.

    By Jocelyne , Posted August 6, 2009 3:50 PM
  • Julie: I agree with your post. Why can't some of these people accept the fact that both of these guys are talented. You can support one or the other without bashing and posting negative comments. The media have asked Kris on numerous occasions if it bothered him because Adam was getting the loud screams and amazing response. Kris responded, ' Why would that bother me? Adam is amazing and deserves all the attention that he is getting. He's an amazing performer and one of my best friends and I'm really happy for him." Kris is a class act, (so is Adam) so come on people, stop trying to compare them, because it's impossible! They are completely different artists and amazing guys and great friends. Congrats and good luck to both Kris and Adam! God bless you both on this journey! Peace to you both!
