Help to Get Across the Finish Line: Army 10-Miler and AIDS Walk Washington This Weekend

Army Ten-Miler
YOU DON'T NEED to be able to run 10 miles to participate in the Army Ten-Miler. You don't even need to be in town this Sunday for the 25th anniversary of the race, the largest 10-mile event in the country (30,000 participants are signed up to run from the Pentagon this year).

Instead, you can just swing by the D.C. Armory (2001 East Capitol St. SE) this Friday (11 a.m.-8 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.-7 p.m.) for the race expo. It's where runners will pick up their packets, but the action is open to everyone.

More than 75 vendors — for clothing, shoes and gear; health services; upcoming races; local gyms and more — will be hawking their wares. Expect free samples and show specials galore.

But if you're more into learning than shopping, head over to the Tandberg Interactive Zone for a series of free clinics. On the schedule: nutrition tips (Friday at 11:30 a.m.), podiatric wisdom (Saturday at 9:45 a.m.) and ChiRunning techniques (Saturday at 4:30 p.m.).

The best warm-up of all, however, might just be Saturday morning in downtown D.C. It won't be too late to lace up your shoes, head to Freedom Plaza and register for AIDS Walk Washington, a 5K that supports the Whitman-Walker Clinic. Same-day registration kicks off at 7 a.m., and the walk begins at 9:15 a.m.
