Bringing the Fierce to D.C.: Christian Siriano
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO MAY think that you're a hot mess. But with his new book, "Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self," he's trying his best to lift you out of the trenches of the badly dressed. Siriano won "Project Runway's" fourth season, and since then, it seems like everything has been going the Maryland native's way. From a shoe and accessory line with Payless Shoe Source to a makeup collection with Victoria's Secret to his clothes' being picked up by Saks Fifth Avenue, Siriano's brand is popping up everywhere a discerning fashionista — or recessionista — could look.
Before he stops by the L Street Borders (technically K Street) Saturday, Siriano chatted about his career and what every woman should stock in her wardrobe.
» EXPRESS: Did you ever think your career would branch out in so many different directions?
» SIRIANO: No, it's been amazing. I've been very busy, but
[the] experience is a dream. I really do feel like I'm living a dream every moment.
» EXPRESS: How did the book come about?
» SIRIANO: It was an intense process, but I had a lot of fun working with Rennie Dyball. The idea came up right after I won the show, but I wanted to share my experiences and what I was learning.
» EXPRESS: What should people look forward to in "Fierce Style"?
» SIRIANO: Everyone should look forward to the tips from celebs and the quotes and all the fun behind-the-scenes stuff. The book has a bit of my backstory, too. It's good for aspiring young designers, artists and fashionistas; it's a fun, kitschy book
not too serious. There's a glossary in the back of funny words, too!
» EXPRESS: Are you excited to come back to the area?
» SIRIANO: I am; I love meeting my fans.
Coming home is always exciting because I get to see my family and hang out with my mom and my sister, Shannon. There's no stress for me there. It's always nice to come home and relax.
» EXPRESS: What are some trends you think women should fold into their wardrobes? What should women be avoiding?
» SIRIANO: Accessories are always key: bags, hats, belts, bangles, earrings. It's an easy way to update your wardrobe; it's always good to mix and match what you have. Don't get stuck wearing the same thing — take a chance.
