Bold as Love: Richard Lloyd

Richard Lloyd courtesy Parasol Records
WEDNESDAY: As the ax man for avant-punk pioneers Television, Richard Lloyd is a guitar hero. On his latest solo CD, "The Jamie Neverts Story," he tackles the works of another six-string legend: Jimi Hendrix. It's all a bit reverential at first blush, and not enough of Lloyd's own style comes into play, but there's a deeply personal reason behind the album: It's a tribute to Lloyd's friend and former Hendrix student, the late Velvert Turner.

There are a slew of classic Richard Lloyd clips after the jump, plus a live version of "Are You Experienced?" performed April 21, 2009, at the Velvet Lounge in D.C.
