Get Halloween-Ready: Costume Sale at the Washington National Opera

Washington National Opera, Halloween Costumes
THIS WEEKEND: There's a sale of old clothes in Northwest this weekend, but it's no old-shirt-covered lawn.

The Washington National Opera is unloading more than 1,000 items from its collection of stage costumes, including classic diva gowns, military uniforms, character costumes and a vintage piece from a 1962 staging of "Madama Butterfly," which we will tear out of anyone's hands if they so much as get near it.

» Washington National Opera Takoma Studio, Rehearsal Room C (third floor), 6925 Willow St. NW; Sat. & Sun., Oct. 16 & 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., free; prices range from $2 for smaller items to $50-$200 for costumes. (Tacoma)
