BEST OF 2009
Best Burger: Five Guys

EVEN THOUGH FIVE GUYS now has 499 branches nationwide, the first store opened in Arlington in 1986, which gives us bragging rights forever. Its flavorful fries and burgers with pick-your-own toppings are fresh, never frozen (no, seriously — they don't even have freezers). It's that "fanatical devotion to quality" that makes them so beloved, says Mary Nowinksi, brand manager for Five Guys Enterprises.
By the Numbers: Five Guys has gone through 82,000,000 pounds of potatoes so far in 2009.
