Best Film Festival: Silverdocs

LISTENING TO SOME OF the political rhetoric that is tossed around in this town, you'd think Washingtonians were allergic to the truth. It turns out we like truth when it's on film, at least, as evinced by the success of the Silverdocs film festival, held every summer at the AFI Silver. The movies are sad, funny, transcendent, silly and moving — the only unifying factor is that they're all true to life.
Don't Forget To: Of all the events held at AFI, this may be the most celebrity-studded — past festivals have attracted Marion Barry and LeBron James. No dates have been announced for the 2010 festival, but check back at its Web site for details.
