Best Florist: A Little Shop of Flowers
LIKELY AT LEAST partially thanks to its clever name — but more significantly, owner Sefika Kurt's 18 years in business — this cheery Adams Morgan shop has cultivated a zealous following, from high-strung brides to doghouse-dwelling husbands to Mother's Day well-wishers. Kurt perfects her arrangements by asking a quick series of detailed questions to determine the recipient's style (elegant or exotic; modern or garden-style). Need a pretty bouquet to give dinner party hosts? "Are you going to eat lobster or spaghetti?" Kurt jokes. More seriously, she offers a fail-proof suggestion: orchids, hydrangeas and, for an unexpected accent, sprigs of curly willow. "Nobody would say no to that," she says.
Owner's Fave: Kurt admires the funky floral designs of Urban Petals' Sarah von Pollaro.
