Best Vintage Store: Junction

junction vintage"RETRO UPDATE" might be an oxymoron — linguistically speaking, at least — but at this U Street basement shop, the phrase is elevated to credo status. With each item hand-plucked by owner Shannan Fales, the shop's racks harbor chic blasts from the past tagged with handwritten notes from Fales advising how to rock the style today. "Just because it's vintage doesn't necessarily mean it's stylish — I try to pick things that can be incorporated into everyday style," she says.

Favorite Vintage Find: Diane von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dresses from the 1970s.
