Love of the Irish: 'Disco Pigs'

Disco PigsONGOING: The story is familiar: boy is best friends with girl until one day boy actually notices girl — but "Disco Pigs" is not your typical fairy tale.

This is the tale of inseparable friends, Pig and Runt, who spend their 17th birthday frolicking about the nightclubs in Cork, Ireland. In a scant 60 minutes, friendship turns to obsession. And nothing good ever came of obsession.* Solas Nua is one of two Irish-focused theater companies in D.C., and their scrappy attitude is a great fit for this little play.

*OK, fine, the lightbulb.

  • You wrote there are "two Irish-focused companies" in DC. I love Irish work and would love to know who the second one is. Studio and Scena do one Irish play a year and the Kegan Theatre has an Irish name but they only do one a year as well. I just saw Of Mice and Man at Keegan and know they are doing Rent next, lovely Artist Director from Texas, but who is the other Irish company?
