Well if you don't have cable they are still relevant. Otherwise you can get the real news from FOX.
By STR , Posted September 3, 2009 4:20 AMAll of the networks' nightly news broadcasts are irrelevant, especially hard left cbs, nbc, and abc. I thought reporters and journalists were supposed to be neutral, but I guess that is ancient history. I rarely turn on my TV anymore for the "news." I think utube clips may even be more relevant as news.
By Common Kevin , Posted September 3, 2009 6:03 AMThe networks news cast haven't been relevant since Walter Cronkite left.
By MZ , Posted September 3, 2009 7:09 AMThey are less relevant than a daily newspaper, as they have the news equivalent of the first paragraph of a newspaper story.
By Kevin , Posted September 3, 2009 7:40 AMCommon Kevin, you need help. Your posts are inconsistent from one day to another, indicating some sort of schizophrenia.
Two days ago (Sep 1), you claimed "I have better things to spend my money on than TV. From what I hear, maybe I should get cable and watch Ms.NBC so I can really spew some hate." Yet today, you admit to having TV, and claim to be authoritative enough to criticize cable channels.
Your paranoia about the "hard left" that you think surrounds and conspires against you is another illness that needs to be attended to.
Get help, soon.

By Common Kevin , Posted September 3, 2009 8:18 AMDear Diogenes. Obviously you can not tell when I am serious and when I am being sarcastic. I guess I will have to point this out to you from now on. By the way, if my posts are "inconsistent from one day to another" then that would suggest I am either bipolar or have multiple personalities rather than me having "schizophrenia." If you think that the news media is not seriously left leaning, (or neutral) then I think you are the one that needs their head examined. Just wait for the Obama 2012 Depression. I called it over 6 months ago and am still preparing for it.
All Barack Channel, Chairman Barack Speaks and Now Barack Cometh were rendered irrelevant as soon as the election began.
By Anonymous , Posted September 3, 2009 8:26 AMAlmost. I rely on Brian Williams to keep me up on what has happened throughout the day. As far as I'm concerned, the other anchor persons are only celebrities, not even worthy of being a news anchor person. Now, here comes Diane Sawyer.
By Nancy , Posted September 3, 2009 9:20 AMMost people already know the news before it's broadcast, so yes.
By Tim , Posted September 3, 2009 9:22 AMI suspected as much considering Obama made a joke in a speech that he "couldn't sleep so he rolled over and asked Brian Williams what he would do." This explains many of your views of this disastrous administration.
By Anonymous , Posted September 3, 2009 9:45 AMThe only relevant half-hour nightly news show is The Daily Show.
By Janel , Posted September 3, 2009 9:52 AMWith only 30 minutes (including commercials) to cover domestic and international news (to say nothing about all of the salacious Hollywood gossip that somehow makes it into nightly coverage) it is impossible to be relevant. The networks would gladly dump news coverage all together if they felt they could. Currently, outside of The Washington Post, The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, The Newshour, and possibly the Christian Science Monitor (all online now) there are no legitimate domestic news sources. CNN is crap, MSNBC is a news entertainment network rather than a news network, and Fox is such a throwback to 19th Century yellow journalism that it makes CNN look good.
By MildlyMisanthropic , Posted September 3, 2009 9:54 AMNancy,
By Anonymous @9:45 AM , Posted September 3, 2009 10:00 AMMy prior comment was for you.
Janel,
By Anonymous , Posted September 3, 2009 10:06 AMI hope this is a joke. Otherwise you need to seek help.
Janel's comment might be a joke, but the truth is that show's audiences are more informed than any other News source according to the Pews Research.
By TH , Posted September 3, 2009 10:30 AMMy only source of news is Faux News. I don't care if it's all spins and opinions. As long as they continue to drape themselves in those red-white-blue colors, I'm all in. Any other channels without those colors are simply unAmerican, dare I say socialist?
By Know Nothing Kevin , Posted September 3, 2009 10:31 AMI'm afraid Common Kevin does not need help, rather is just a common form of that internet nuisance known as the "Troll." From film forums to comment boards, Kevin and others like him only wish to provide the opposition no matter how unrealistic or illogical their argument is.
Kevin, you fail at life and the internet. Please stop using your parents' computer, leave the house and be a productive member of society. Thanks.
By demonfafa , Posted September 3, 2009 10:32 AMLocal news broadcasts are still relevant and important. The nightly network-wide broadcasts are no more relevant than American Idol.
By Mason Spencer , Posted September 3, 2009 10:49 AMCommon Kevin, in the space of just over 2 hours, cable news went from being "hard left" to "seriously left leaning, (or neutral)", another reason why so few will accept as serious anything you say. I maintain that you are schizophrenic as you appear irrationally delusional. Since reason doesn’t apply to someone who has a schizophrenic delusion, arguing with you logically gets us nowhere.
By Common Kevin needs help , Posted September 3, 2009 11:08 AMNetwork TV and newspapers are nearly extinct. There are better sources of news and entertainment available. The evening news broadcasts are no longer timely in a 24/7 global environment. In addition to irrelevant, they are annoying and opinionated.
By another person , Posted September 3, 2009 11:10 AMPretty much and it's reflected in their ratings. It's 23 minutes of bare bones news anyway
By chris , Posted September 3, 2009 11:51 AMdemonfafa,
By Common Kevin , Posted September 3, 2009 12:04 PMNice try. Did you get that from Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals?
Common Kevin needs help (Diogenes),
Virtually the same thing bub. Where are your logical arguments? All you have done is come out with attacks and no substance. Are you talking Saul's teachings to heart also? I never said "cable news." You really need to learn how to read. The question did not ask about cable news, but "network nightly news. I do not even have cable. Why pay for TV, when I can watch cbs, nbc, abc, or fox for free?
I hate the nightly news, especially when all the topics I want to hear are placed at the end. Like money talk and the weather. I am so tired of hearing about Michael Jackson come on why he still newsworthy. Maybe on ET, but why on nbc, fox and cbs???? How have random celebrities started to become headliners. I am also so tired of hearing about the un-important stuff that the Obama's do. I could give careless if Michelle has on bermuda shorts!!!!
By msJB , Posted September 3, 2009 12:50 PMThe mainstream media is pretty much propaganda for the Washington Imperium. The Soviet press was more independent.
By Chaos Theorist , Posted September 3, 2009 2:05 PM"The mainstream media is pretty much propaganda for the Washington Imperium. The Soviet press was more independent."
heheheh.. Agree with the first sentence, not sure about the second, but they are perhaps dangerously similar.
By George Washington , Posted September 3, 2009 2:26 PMAs to the poll question... if you really have to ask that, I think you're in denial.
The nightly news is extremely biased and they no longer accurately report the stories so they can get ratings or money. This has been a trend for at least the last decade. If reporters actually return to responsible journalism, the nightly news will become relevant again.
By Gas on the fire , Posted September 3, 2009 2:53 PMI find a half-hour nightly news more informative than 2 hours of cable network news. If I want to watch all day coverage of who killed Anna Nicole Smith on cable news, I can watch it on E! network.
By Anonymous , Posted September 3, 2009 3:29 PMAnd that's the way it is...has become...and that's the way we want it to be.
By another person , Posted September 3, 2009 4:24 PMKevin,
I don't debate with Trolls as it is akin to arguing with a goat. That is why you get no arguments.
However, any logical or rational people who read these comments every day have become very familiar with your imbalanced hate-drivel so my comment was actually directed at them. I hope that everyone will ignore you in the future.
And who the hell is Saul Alinksy? (this is rhetorical - please don't answer)

By Common Kevin , Posted September 3, 2009 5:30 PMPerfect loony name for yourself. I am sorry that I have five degrees, my wife has three degrees, and we are considered "rich" by Obama with two homes (one is paid off). I guess you are right and I am not productive enough and "live with my parents" even though we own two homes. Sorry to burst your bubble. Good point Saul. Barney Frank put it best in that "Trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table. I have no desire to do it."
