What are the Beatles and why are they popular now? What breed of Beatles are they?
By Common Kevin , Posted September 9, 2009 5:57 AMNo, because the remaining people who are maintaining their popularity will have passed away.
By Kevin , Posted September 9, 2009 6:46 AMNo one in 2049 will have nostalgia for 1969 except a couple of centenarians. The Beatles will be as popular in 2049 as the most popular music of 1929 is today. Shall we dance the Charleston, anyone?
By Was Buf., Now Was. , Posted September 9, 2009 7:55 AMWho Cares? Van Jones was finally tossed from the administration because of his racist and self-confessed communist views and this is all the express can come up with? Then again, what do you expect from the clearly Liberal Washington Post?

One could argue that Bach and Mozart and Beethoven and such are still popular long after
By Brad Longley , Posted September 9, 2009 8:12 AMIn other words: Will we still need you, will we still feed you, when you're a hundred-and-four? Probably, but not like we do today, Ringo and Paul. Sorry, tastes change.
By Diogenes , Posted September 9, 2009 8:52 AMThe Express should post a poll question on 9/9/49--"Are the Beatles still popular?" Better odds that you'll get a few "Yes" votes than the paper still being in publication. coo coo ca choo
By NoChildLeft , Posted September 9, 2009 9:26 AMThe Beatles seem pretty popular to me.

By Smarter Guy , Posted September 9, 2009 9:32 AMI agree, Brad, but I missed the release of Rock Band Mozart.
By Anonymous , Posted September 9, 2009 9:43 AMMany people the world over still love artists such as Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Django Rheinhardt. Are their recordings flying out of the iTunes store? No, but there is still a large number of people who respect and admire these artists and listen to their work. The same will be true of the Beatles.
By MildlyMisanthropic , Posted September 9, 2009 9:51 AMOf course they will. The Beatles have come to define a generation and it is being passed down from one to the next. No artist today can claim that kind of impact in such a fragmented entertainment marketplace. In addition to being in the right place at the right time, the quality of the music ensures that the Beatles will remain popular.
By Rob , Posted September 9, 2009 10:00 AMAbsolutely. Just as NSync and Brittney will still be popular 75 years from now.
By Durr , Posted September 9, 2009 10:15 AMAbsolutely. Like Brad said above, Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, the jazz greats, Elvis et al are musical icons that will live forever.
By Too young to remeber, old enuff to enjoy , Posted September 9, 2009 10:56 AMTheir music will endure in elevators and grocery stores everywhere.
By another person , Posted September 9, 2009 11:34 AMPopular?
By Anonymous , Posted September 9, 2009 11:39 AMOf course they will be "popular" to the many people who still appreciate their music.
Yes, even 40 years from now.
It's really not that far away, kiddies.
Why do people post if they have nothing important to say? Do you have nothing better to do than to make stpuid comments or put people down?
The Beatles will only be as popular as the parents and and grandparents that pass down their stories and present variations in music to the young ones. Unfortunatley, this is fading.
By jedivader , Posted September 9, 2009 12:23 PMIn 40 years I believe their visages will be engraved, along with those of Boys II Men, New Kids on the Block, and the Backstreet Boys, on a Mt. Rushmore-style tribute to the all-time great boy bands.
By Special Olympic Bowler , Posted September 9, 2009 12:29 PMOf course they won't. The Baby Boomers will be in their final phases of extinction and The Beatles will be as popular then as ragtime music is today.
By Anonymous , Posted September 9, 2009 1:13 PMAny chance that the Monkees can catch back up with them over the next 40 years?
By Envious Ape , Posted September 9, 2009 3:07 PMI think everyone will follow the advice of one of the fab four themselves, and "forget to remember to forget", cause I can't live iin a world without love.. or the beatles.
By mo'rockindupont , Posted September 9, 2009 3:38 PMso just let it be, let it be.
Only in old age homes.
By Anonymous , Posted September 9, 2009 4:56 PMThe Beatles aren't popular now. No chance they will be 40 years from now either.
By Rasterfreeart , Posted September 9, 2009 4:58 PMMandarin or Spanish will be the world's lingua franca in 40 years so The Beatles will still be relics just like they are today.
By TruthBeTold , Posted September 9, 2009 5:01 PMI predict there songs will be known but the band will fade
By Panic , Posted September 9, 2009 9:59 PMThink Stephen Foster
Everyone knows Old Folks at Home,Camp town Races, Oh Susana etc. but memory of him has faded
The Beatles came from a time before Napster, Youtube, and American Idol was popular. I doubt future generations will remember or understand the impact this group made to music. Heck, we remember the non-winners of ideas in the future.
By Ron The Don , Posted September 9, 2009 11:02 PMIt's amazing with their level of writing skills that Common Kevin, Was Buf., Now Was, Rasterfreeart manage to turn on a computer.
